Did not know Donic uses bandsaws to trim the rubbers in their pro prepped rackets. As an EJ that would be so much cooler and faster than screwing around with a pair of scissors or utility knife. I wonder if its a special rubber cutting saw blade or if it's all in the hands.

Interesting, but how in the heck does that work!? Video would be nice, because I have no idea how they can use a bandsaw to get a perfect cut. Also if they are cutting that many rubbers, maybe a dedicated rubber cutter would be much more efficient?

I use a scalpel and it takes literally 30 seconds, it’s a lot cheaper and safer than a bandsaw, the edge would be a lot smoother, and almost impossible to damage the blade. So I’ll pass on the bandsaw.
I bought a bag of scalpels but literally found it’s one cut per blade and then it’s blunt - crazy! How do you manage that?

You don't need a bandsaw to get a good cut. Just grab a scalpel / very sharp knive, put some soap on it and cut it as one piece and don't let go. Also hold it straight. The trick to make it look even cleaner is to use two layers of very sticky edge tape and leave 0,5mm on each side of rubber, don't go over it. Learned this from a guy who has been gluing rackets every day for more than 30 years

Yep, one cut per blade. But the blades are super cheap, no more than $15 per 100 blades. A lot cheaper than the glue brushes I like to use, which costs about $1 per 2 brushes. It’s a bit expensive but they’re super nice to use.

how do you guys manage to cut with a blade😂 i tried once and my rubber became a mess so i just sticked with scissors
You get a cutting board, then cut while keeping the scalpel blade parallel to the edge of your table tennis blade. I also recommend getting the #24 scalpel blade.

Did you try other blades than #24 for cutting rubber?
I use #11 scalpel blades (also around $15 per a set of 100, 1-3 assembled rackets per blade) and I think, it lets me cut precisely enough (I use a cheap bamboo cutting board and 1-2 sheets of A4 office paper if the rubber doesn't have protection foil).

i tried with a wooden board and my blade couldn't cut deep enough so my red rubber looks like a kid was bitting pieces off of it😂

Yes, this happens if the blade is not ultra sharp - as in brand new.
I had recently a couple of skin-lesions taken out at the hospital and even then the surgeon had to change the blade half the way through the op and my skin is nowhere near as tough as the rubbers are.

I tried a few ones and #24 is the one I like the best, but I think this depends on the person's cutting technique, so it really depends. I however don't use wooden/bamboo cutting boards, since wood/bamboo grains are straight, but we need to cut curves. I use arts and craft self healing cutting boards, like this one https://www.amazon.com/Healing-Cutting-Precision-Scrapbooking-Project/dp/B088M48Z3G/
