So I’ve bought a new Hurricane Long 5
I’m happy because it’s 92g and has a rebound percentage of 69% (~1400Hz).
But the quality is highly questionable.
In the middle there are lines which look like they were artificially carved but it’s actually going outward in 3D instead of dipping inward so I can feel them.
Like how does a wooden ply happen to have these weird marks?
(It was completely unopened and sealed with the plastic wrap with the white card in it as usual)
I just wanted to share my experience. I’m still gonna use it tho because the properties are top notch for a commercial blade.

Congrats! Excited to hear your thoughts.

The scratches look like key scratches or something from opening the packaging

Where did you buy it from?
a friend bought it in China and brought It to me but it was completely unopened so they’re not scratches that were cause outside the factory

Can you feel it with your fingers, It may just be how the wood looks like…

Then it may be damaged. If it’s from a cheapie Chinese store I’m not surprised…

Cheers

nah, I don’t think it was intentional. I bought it from an authorised dealer online and return policies are very strict in China. Had my friend happened to notice it he would’ve returned it. It simply just came like this from the factory which is astonishing in a negative way. This is not new though, DHS is known for its poor quality control and this is just a commercial blade.

A friend of mine was on a corporate trip to study the Chinese textile industry not too long ago (6-7 years). The employees took factory rejects, packed them and resold them as the real items name and everything. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the online stores get their equipment in a similar way.

This is exactly what I think happened with my Sanwei 75 inner. You don't miss a big crack in the core in QC

I'd keep it if I were you. 1400 sounds pretty good

of course it is always disappointing when we receive some crap from anywhere and indeed QC is often questionable .
However I am more intrigued how these "rised non-scratches " could actually happen. Do you think they would disappear with a light block-sand using maybe 280 grit sandpaper ???

Either it's the natural pocs of the wood, or someone had a rubber on it and peeled up some fibers. Hard for me to see the pics on my phone

Scratches must be coming from the factory before they wrapped the blade with foil. Looks like something sharp has scratched the outer veneer with an angle making the wood going outwards. It would not affect the blade as such, but understandable annoying when you spend money on something new and expect that the quality should be reflected by the price you pay for a premium signature blade.

I think I can sand them down but the marks would still be visible. I don’t really care about them unless they influence the game. But I’ll find that out later
better lightly block-sand because it might save you trouble when gluing the rubbers on and especially when you will take the rubbers off. Also , some do and some don't but especially in this situation I would seal the blade.

It has nothing to do with the quality control, just a couple of scratches. 100% sure it won't impact your game.
In fact, DHS has relatively decent product quality, especially if you compare it to other Chinese brands.
.................and I 100% disagree. We are not talking about a $ 15 blade here. Good money was spend and for that sort of money we are entitled to good craftsmanship, good material and no faults at all. The "scratches" look like the are made with a sharp blade, maybe something else is wrong and some quality controller marked it with a knife and it should have been thrown away.
