Hello everyone,

Recently, I listened to an interview with Xu Xin where he shared a thought about staying consistent with your equipment:

“Just as a craftsman perfects jade over time, a player refines their connection with the racket through consistency and practice. Choosing the right racket is essential, but the relationship you build with it is even more important.” — Xu Xin

This really resonated with me. So for the last match of the league here in Spain, I decided to play with my old racket — the one I had used for over 7 years. You can watch the result in the video below. Personally, I think it made a lot of sense, especially in these times when we’re always chasing the latest gear. Sometimes, going back to the roots can be refreshing and meaningful.

Of course, this is just my perspective — but I’d love to hear your thoughts and learn from your experiences too.

Best regards,

DiegOX

I get your point and tend to agree.

But with that said, how do you know when it's time to upgrade because you improved?

I'm with G-1 2MM on my FH. It's working great. I'm improving. And enjoying it. But maybe I should switch to G-1 MAX now? to get more spin and speed?

Hard to tell when is the time to switch..

I did the same thing, I found my old viscaria and my coach gave me his old rubbers. Got tired and fed up with trying to find the perfect setup and ended up throwing away all old rubbers and put my blades in storage.

The way you know you need to switch is when a good lobber can lob you infinitely even when you are hitting hard.

It is true, many people was today answering this. After getting use to it how to know when is the right time to change? And I think this is something so personal, it would be so hard to tell people a unique answer. It depends on many factors. Indeed, I have changed many times, but now with this base clear I think I can go with conviction for the next one, knowing well what I do have and what I expect for the next. This, I think, is the key point.

In my case I’m grateful that I could learn so much on the process of reviewing and testing material. I even enjoy producing interesting results there. The point is if one is looking for a setup for having fun or for competing. Then it can be useful

I found it distracting at best, infuriating at worst. I'd be better off if I had never tried anything. I don't think I'll change again for many years.

I think they most important in testing is how the ball bite on your rubber and blade.
I use sieger PK 50 and try make a comeback to classic japanese rubbers and I feel higher pressure on the rubber + it lacks of the spin but it is easier to Play after bounce so my technique change and I know how to work with ultra tacky rubber with soft sponge but I dont know how to work without the tack and less pressure on the rubber. And the relationship between equipment is very important. I love my sieger, I love my fzd 95 gram IT makes me believe that I will win everything. But topsheet from my sieger is like new then sponge is dead and I feel like, I cant depend on my rubbers so I feel bad about next season

It is really simple actually, you will feel it. TT is a game of feeling, if something is feeling off or not right, then 99% it is indeed something off or not right

Personally I hate carbon blades, sometimes I thought it was because I cannot play fast enough but it is simply because I dont play with too much power but I like shots with feeling and placement more
