Hiya

As I'm cured of EJ-ing, I now have too many blades at home. As the rackets are all penhold, I don't know what to do with them.

Can anyone of you send me a PM of an address of a table tennis school in Asia, so I can give the blades away for free and do something good? A school or an institution in Europe (I live close to Germany) won't need 15 to 20 penhold blades. I have sanded the handle of the racquets, so it would be useful for children.

So, if anyone knows a school in Asia who can use penhold racquets (mostly short pips on the FH/BH, some inverted on the FH) - please PM me. Thank you.

hey there @Tha_Homeless

penhold is indeed a tough one for most of the countries that play table tennis.

I know few coaches that have donation programs (not tt related) going on with rural schools in Taiwan.
through them, I might be able to send some blades to those that are less fortunate.

15-20 may take a while to digest, but it shouldn't be impossible if I try and network around and find specific schools in those areas where there is also some kind of table tennis program, then maybe it will move faster

alternative is for you to sell them and use that money to donate to different charities of your wish, or I can redirect those funds for table tennis purposes for those in needs in South Africa.

I do think selling 15-20 blades isn't easy, especially in Europe.

Hello @Tha_Homeless

As a fellow penholder, from Singapore, it may be viable to donate to some of the schools here in SG. Especially the secondary schools with table tennis CCA [After School Activities]. There are not many young penholders in SG anymore, but my 1 year older senior and school table tennis buddy is a cpenholder, left handed too. Hence, I can suggest that this option may work out too, benefiting all parties.

Another thing is that when you don't go for lessons or are being coached, the older generation, some which are very good players, are majority penholders. I dont go for coaching, so I learnt table tennis from the old uncles I meet at the table tennis arena. They usually offer to teach you as a way for them too to get a playing buddy. I usually just turn up with my bat and they'll ask you to play with them. This shows that there is still a community of penholders here, but a rapidly aging one that is.

I took the useable rubbers and glued them on the shakehand blades which I received from my team mates. Then we donated those to the club with the biggest youth movement in our region. Finally I handed the penhold blades to a local carpentry company - he said he could use that material and I never asked what for 😀
