History In The Making! North Korea Are The Mixed Doubles Champions! (VIDEO)

Incredible scenes took place today at the 2013 World Table Tennis Championships as tears shed from North Korea's Kim Hyok Bong and Kim Jong Win. The national anthem played and the flag of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea was raised in their honour to the newly mixed doubles champions.

The pairing have created history in becoming their countries first ever mixed doubles champions at a World Championships.

In the final the duo knocked out Korea's Lee Sangsu and Park Youngsook in a hard thought si6 sets with scores 11-6, 11-8, 11-3, 6-11, 8-11, 11-7.

This is a very big accomplishment for these players imo. As far as I know they hardly play any other big events and thus can't train on match situations versus different opponents from their level. Kim Hyok Bong ofcourse already suprised us at the Olympics beating Joo See Hyuk.

This shows what hard work and dedication can do. Ofcourse the other players can't plan a strategy against them in the early stages, but this changes after their first matches.
