My friend changed from this target national to hurricane 3 but the sponge came apart and he gave it to me.

I've cleaned the pip side as best I could and it looks pretty good.

I've found a Japanese sponge, so does anyone know how to attach it properly with what kind of glue?

Thanks!

Had always done it with VOC glue only. Not sure about water-based glue.

Spread the glue of your choice (a few layers depending on the glue) on the pips and the sponge, let them dry, put the sponge on the blade first just like how you would do with a typical rubber with sponge and cut off the excess. Then you will need a pair of steady hands to grab the topsheet by the sides, line up right and place it on top of the sponge.

Not the point, since the topsheet is fine I see a fine oportunity to throw a Japanese or German sponge on it and see the results.
I did it as a test too, i used thin contact cement glue, spread a layer on glass then roll the topsheet without much pressure to ensure even coating just on the pips. If needed give another layer. 1 layer on the sponge then when both sides dry to the touch paste it, you can give a bit of tension to the topsheet if you want by stretching just a bit while glueing. Keep in mind VOC glues may expand and curl the sponge like booster. I see some people used speedglue.

can't use wbg, I tried, the bond just isn't strong enough.
I found a 729 top sheet and some sponge, the wbg I used and my time, probably cost 10 folds more than the actual rubber lol;

FUTILE JOB, ANYWAY.
A hand-made sandwich rubber represents a sort of illegal makeshift only fit for a recreational pastime or a child amusement. You can never use the such for a statutory competition , unless you seeking to incur a penalty sanction on your rear spot. Sorry.

I'll make it, put it on a wavy blade, then I'll throw an ox long pimple in the microwave and put that on the bh and use that thing against you on an official tournament after bribing the umpire and allowing me to play.

Please dont waste your time on regluing the rubber, as it wont play as it should be.
As ther is loss of tension in rubber it becomes slow and if not attached uniformly it plays dead on detached parts.

I had same issue with brand new rubber out of the package with two rubbers.

best way is use it as short pimple rubber.😆
