Yes, perfectly normal. There will always be some sidespin at first due to the brushing component. As your stroke develops, you will figure out how to hit through the ball more.

I have recently changed from jpen to cpen but I can not play backhand to backhand as consistent because of the side spin is this normal any tips?
Thanks

You need to change your contact angle and timing or even your position "against" the incoming ball so that you dont hit too much with the outter side of your paddle

its normal and natural to hit sidespin shots with RPB

to change it however, you would need to change where you hit the ball

from my own personal experiences fixing my wrist angle largely fixed the "problem" since doing so would allow me to hit the back of the ball more rather than the sides

you would also need to check if your stroke starts from the center of your body and goes forward and recovers backwards, no deliberate left to right movement

its pretty similar to shakehand BH
