Here we go guys! The first World Tour of 2018 is about to commence, the Hungarian Open! The lineup looks tasty with Fan Zhendong, Chuang Chih Yuan, OmarAssar, Hugo Calderano and Ruwen Filus filling the top 5 seeds. The event takes place on the 16th January and concludes on the 21st.

At first I thought FZD will be the only Chinese player, but there will also be Liu Dingshuo, Xue Fei, Wang Chuqin, Xu Chenhao and Yu Ziyang. Will FZD drop a set on the way to the title?

Its sad to see ITTF enforcing these new rules, but then they also restrict entry of max 6 players per country.
With strong tt countries like China, Gu Yuting and Chen Ke are not allowed to play..... for them to play, then two of the top 6 must make away (thus hurting world ranking points etc)

Costs:
1) accreditation fee: 150 Euro
2) accommodation (single room) 145 Euro x 6 nights+/- = 870 euro
3) assuming player walked to the venue so not transport costs.
Total: 1020 euro

prize money to break even:
R16 singles: 1100 euro
makes 80 euro

In this case nobody will compare with ATP where 2-3 countries have nearly 10 participants each in the majors.

Gu Yuting is on your list as a seed
I don't see her any where in the seeds
she is marked as waiting list, but as there is no spots, she didn't play (or rather can't play)

basically for waiting list to work:
1) of the original 290 approved players, one must "pull out" before the tournament
2) then ITTF will approve WL players based on world ranking (so there is a chance of more than 6 players per association)

This is what Rain and myself has been saying that a lot of your up and coming players will find it difficult to take part in world tours to increase world ranking.
unless the national association don't send 6 players and nominate the "up and coming" player as part of the 6

I am amaze with how many players China has on the waiting list for this world tour

Lol, if he meets Wang Chuqin he might even lose. He reallllly don't like the kid's style. Though it's unlikely to happen.

I counted the number of players.
Men's singles qualifications; Group1-52 x3(players) + Group53&54x4(players) = 164
Women's singles qualifications; Group1-42x3(players) = 129
Seed players; 16(men)+16(women)= 32
164+129+32=325 total

not included U21 or Doubles
I also confirmed "limit the number of entries to 290" but don't understand the meaning

yep, ITTF been over for many tours already, going to be interesting to see how they manage to reduce ITTF world tours (they said publically they want to reduce the number of participants), but in the same time making sure as many of your top players participates, while keeping the prize money so little and expecting the sport to become better

I am surprisingly glad to see that Xu Chenhao without world ranking and low ranked players like Truls Moregard managed to enter the event! Though it suggests that a lot lot of high ranked players actually do not attend.
