Hurricane Long 5 (new) incoming

Hello everyone!

I am receiving an HL5 FL (new) as a gift from someone who was in the UK this week. He wouldn't understand the concept of just the blade being an adequate gift and was adamant to complete it with both the rubbers. Although I have been lately playing the H3 Neo blue 40 2.1 FH and Rakza Z BH recently, I was afraid if he would mess it up and hence it is coming with Rakza Z max both sides. I thought I would play that setup for a while and then change to H3 BS FH soon or not so soon.

I will probably receive it tomorrow. Have asked for a 90g to 93g weight and hopefully a 65+ dwell on the test card. Just getting excited at the thought of it. My current blade is Yinhe Pro 01 with above mentioned rubbers. Also have a Hurricane 301, my first good blade (which I really liked) but I played that blade with Tensor FH and 1.2 LP BH. I currently can loop Forehand effectively and still trying for my Rakza Z BH to reach an adequate level (coming from an LP setup) because that is where my club mates target me at for easy points.

Is this new setup a good setup? No one in my city seems to have this blade. I can see Butterflys all around here. From those who have played the same or a similar setup, can you tell me what to expect out of it? Is the Long 5 BH as notorious as the internet makes it out to be? Or should it be fine? How much difference can I expect with FH drives, underspin loops and counterlooping with the added dwell? I know I will be able to test it myself soon enough but excited to see some answers anyway :D.

Thanks TTD!

Dwell on the test card? Am I missing something here?
Every HL5 comes with a card containing its details, like width of blade, weight of blade and a ratio, usually between 0.6 and 0.7 which corresponds to the amount of dwell the blade can achieve. Some like it dwelly, some like it crisp. But you can rather get a viscaria or timo boll ALC if you want a much less dwell anyway.

Sounds good. I like H3 on fh more than Rakza Z.
Yes I guess I will too. Anyway, I wanted to try long 5 with something other than H3 first, to experience how much the blade by itself adds in feeling and dwell before I go all in with a hard sticky chinese rubber.

Also, Yet to EJ Rakza Z Extra Hard, Unboosted H3 BS 38/39 and Unboosted Battle2 Blue sponge 38/39 on my FH. If either of that can come close to Boosted H3 40, I would like to switch to that to reduce the hassles that come with boosting and reboosting.

I had long 5 before d09c both sides and d09c/d05. I didn’t liked the handle much but it’s a very suitable for looping blade. But not my favourite one to be honest - but many players find it very good for their needs and feeling - it’s a dragon blade for dragons - right?? -right!!🐉

Haha. On paper, the handle is smaller than what I'd prefer. Remains to be seen though if the dragon's blade would help awaken the dragon within me.

It's not dwell ratio, it's bounce back ratio.
I'm not sure exactly but it should be something like if you drop ball from 30cm and it jumps 18cm so ratio is %60. (or similar type of returning energy testing)
Basically it shows how fast the blade.

Testing dwell time of each blade would add 10 euro more cost to a blade :D (and how dwell would measured by ratio? what to compare? it can be represented by nanoseconds)

It's dampening ratio. Translates as Bounce attenuation ratio. I received my blade. And this here attached is the test report card translated to English. Higher number is low catapult is more dwell (theoretically atleast).

I received it today. Played a couple hours. The handle is a bit tiny but I think I can get used to it.

Yes, Bounce attenuation ratio is the concept what I write above.

Dwell is the duration of ball on the ball.
High dwell may be related with catapult, may not be.

Flexibility and softness of blade both can increase dwell, while flex increasing bounce ratio, softness decrease.

Exact meaning of this number is how much blade giving energy back to ball, dwell is just an estimation.

From my understanding, it's the exact opposite. It means how much energy is absorbed. Higher number means less catapult/bounce/speed.

Catapult is related with speed, but not only factor. Catapult can be less, but wood can be harder so speed would be higher. What I am saying cannot derive dwell, catapult etc from this value certainly.

I’ve seen different cards, higher the bounce height (second last value on card) higher bounce ratio (last value)
Closer to %0 means ball stops when it falls, like memory foam mattress, closer %100 giving all energy back. (Could be an Ideal spring or frictionless hard surface in physic lessons)

Anyway good luck, have fun with your new blade!
