Hi,

Christmas is coming up and I decided that I may aswell get new rubbers. Currently, I am deciding to get hurricane 3 neo blue sponge or orange sponge, I am unsure of which one to get, I plan not to boost though as I have had problems with boosting in the past, or maybe thats my issue. I recently had a hurricane 3 national boosted with seamoon 2 but its "unplayable" stated by myself and club mates so I dont know whether to get a BS provincial and OS provincial. Also, what backhand rubber should I get, I am deciding between the tenergy series, possibly t05 as t19 is out of stock in my nearby store or maybe something else from bty or dhs. I would say my style of play is agressive blocks and loops mixed with the occasional smash, for my backhands I tend to be really hard and agressive, basically looping and smashing every ball or its a hard block. I tend to like looping and blocking a lot for my forehand aswell. Thanks in advance.

I would say if you don't wanna boost, then blue sponge won't give you much of an advantage, orange is pretty good even unboosted. 38 or 39 hardness at most. Blue is harder to play, so it may give you problems.

For bh it depends. If you're super good and stable at bh, never loose shots and always play topspins and can constantly put power in your shots without missing shots, then tenergy 05 is good for bh. But let's be realistic, t05 is hard as bh rubber.

If you're not really sure and you want easier spin generation then 05 fx is far better, but still very twitchy. My pick for bh from tenergy series is tenergy 80, far more stable. If you want less spin sensitivity, more control/stability and a bunch of speed then bluestorm z2/3 are great.

If you want a nice feel, excellent control and manageable speed, then rakza 7 is king with rozena being a good alternative.

In general, the blue sponge feels "harder" than the orange sponge. If you are afraid of boosting the rubber and make it too soft, I guess you should go with blue sponge. And if you don't plan to boost, I still recommend blue sponge for one simple reason: blue sponge's top sheet is tackier.

As for backhand rubber, you can pick whatever you have played with and just stick with it.

Or would it be a good idea to get blue sponge and put it unboosted and if I don’t like it i can take it off and put one layer and then reglue and see how it is

H3 blue sponge and orange unboosted is very similar. I get blue because I think the black and blue looks cool without edge tape.

There is a big hurricane mega review on the table tennis 11 YouTube from three pretty decent players who summarise as such.

National to provincial They couldn't tell the difference at all
Blue sponge was preferred strongly by one and orange by one and the third prI efers blue but said if it was blind he isn't sure he could really tell. Bear in mind they boosted.

Backhand rubber shouldn't be affected.

Orange sponge:
1) Softer.
2) Curvy, short trajectory.
3) Less top-end speed and spin, but easy to get medium-power spin/speed.
4) Bad block, bad flat hits.
5) Less reaction to booster.

Blue sponge:
1) Harder.
2) Lower, longer trajectory.
3) Very high top-end spin/speed when you apply body strength.
4) Decent block, decent flat hits.
5) Reacts to booster very well.

To sum it up,
Orange: better for spin lords, easier to play.
Blue: endless potential, harder to play.

Is dignics 05 a good bh rubber?
For pros? Yes
For 80 bucks? No
For less? Still no

It's a difficult rubber to play with, sensitive, fast and hard. Stick to something easier.

You can try it, just know that it'll have a lower throw and will require more power and it needs it consistently, or it'll just say nope and head dive to the net. If you have the power and will to use it then it's a good choice. Boosting doesn't fix that, it just makes it play better, not easier, you still need to put power into it consistently. Do it and the rubber is the best out there.

And still no for the dignics, it's a bad idea.

What other backhand rubber do you recommend? I previously played with the d09c and it was quite good but it’s time for a change

What about a dhs hurricane rubber for the backhand? Like a h3 orange sponge or another versiob

These kind of rubbers can let you down in the game, fast and unforgiving. I'd say if not for the hurricane 3 soft, then rakza 7 for good controllable tensor or rakza z if you like tacky rubbers.

Not necessarily. I love my 09c its way more controlled than tenergy05 and is tacky, and gives more spin. Although it does have a really hard sponge it is 53 on ESN scale (I think). If you can control the ball with it it should be great.

The magic word is if. I thought D05 was great, good feel, grip, speed. Control and reliability went out of the window.

Please indulge me, in what sense was your boosted H3 "unplayable"?
Too bouncy? Or the opposite? Was it too hard? Did it not stick to the blade and create dead spots? (all of these don't indicate a boosting problem)

Or did it become a complete mushy mess? And if so, how did you manage that with one boost?

There is the 37° version of the h3 neo, it's quite good.

Should I get tenergy 05 or hurricane 3 orange 37 degree or should I get another rubber, the store near me mainly sells Victas, dhs and butterfly only
Why do you need to change to something else? TMXi with H3 fh & O7P bh is a professional set up for some.
i want to look for another rubber for backhand as it’s time for a new one

I wouldn't get tenergy for bh, been there, done with that. From dhs the hurricane 3 37° and from victas rhe V15 extra. From butterfly I would say only the rozena, again unless you know you can handle the t05 on the bh, it's a rubber that doesn't forgive mistakes. Twindle your current racket and try it on your bh, see how you like t05 on the bh, and then make the decision.
