I am taking a break from Table Tennis. How far will my skills drop?

says Mr. super ZLC
Though I feel like I can not live without this sport, it is time to take a break and focus on exams. I am in a position where I can not play for the next 30 days, and I am really curious about how this will affect my skills and how big of a setback this will be for me. I guess this is the time I am giving crappy players to catch up or I myself just might turn into a crappy player.

Anyways, does anyone know what effect this will have on my playing? I also have a tournament to participate 1 or 2 weeks after my 1 month break so should I participate or try to resign?

still even if you're not at the table you can try to stay fit.
if you doing some pushups, squats and abs or some rope jumping + shadow play at home everyday, plus some some stretching, it will help you a lot !

you could just be doing some of that 10-15mns everyday

Given the martial arts saying 一日練、一日功、一日不練、十日空/one day of practice, one day of skill; one day of nonpractice, ten days of nihility, therefore, 30 days will cost you 300 days of skill.

The good ol’ sensei’s obviously don’t play table tennis…

your body will be slower and would get tired/sore with a short 1 week before your tournament.
so suggest to stay fit and do some physicals/strengths/cardio while you not at the table.
at least, by this your body/muscle can still be fit and the 1 week you are back, you can just get the feeling back again through training.

30 days isn't too much
pros do it often, ie, recovering from injury

I hope so. I worked hard to get where I was. I also injured my arm, so this is a good time for me to recover from my injuries.

TT = hobby.
Exam = Future.

The priority is clear. Come back soon, you'll get back the groove in no time!
I definitely need to work for a bright future.

30 days isn't long - 6 months to a year to a few years, that is a different story.
30 days does feel long for me.

I will be lifting weights and working out but just no table tennis.

I have a long session break coming soon so I will play table tennis everyday for 30 days then I will get 300 days of skills 😂.

I will try to build my stamina before I return to table tennis.

If watching YouTube is practice, consider me Ma Long
a lot of people still practice by watching Youtube so if do that, your level won’t go away
If it were true I would be Xu Xin

Thanks for all of your feedbacks I hope to return to table tennis soon and maybe I will get footage of me playing and ask yall to review it.

how about spending all this time on playing pong

instead of spending all this time posting around on reddits and forums
Well the place where I play is really far from where I live so I don't go often and I also do not use reddit
I am also injured so all I can do is just study and sit around

Breaks are good, your body will recover and you can come back stronger.
I hope to bounce back from this better than I was before

I once heard a chinese coach teach his players that "talking table tennis", "watching table tennis" is also part of training.

in that context, thinking table tennis is what really is going on, when you not on the table.
that message was from when I was much younger, so decades ago.

so all these Japanese womens player that read they "notes", is "think table tennis" if we can call it such.

so, you could do the same too.
