I don't understand how equipment works, ELI5 me please?

I've played table tennis for so long but never understand how they work.
Please explain like im 5 (ELI5) how things work in table tennis equipment.

You can sticky this thread once they're all answered to help others.

Blade

  1. Number of ply? I dont understand why more ply = better drive; less ply = better spin... How does it work actually?
  2. What is 'flex'? 'dwell time'? How can wood dwell the ball?
  3. Carbon: What are types of carbon used? How do they feel in general?
  4. Why carbon = larger sweet spot?
  5. Wood: What are most common wood used? How do they feel in general? (Carbon (Butterfly ULC and T5000,Yinhe T Series), Zylon (ZLC) Kevlar, Aralyte, Fiberglass)
  6. What are the major differences between all wood vs carbon? Why carbon gives u less spin and feel?
  7. WRB blade? what are the advantages?
  8. Straight vs Flared? From what I feel straight allows tiny amount of better wrist action (esp on BH), then what are the adv of flared?

Specific blade question:

What blades need to be sealed?
I heard from my friend that u need to sand-paper almost all STIGA blade? why?

Rubber and Sponge

  1. Hardness for Chinese rubber? I bought H3 neo 38 degree (softest) and my friend told me: wth that will be harder to loop the ball, and I was like: wait wut? isnt softer means easier to loop?, and my friend err that's kinda different on chinese tacky rubber, usually 39 or 40.
  2. Sponge thickness on pips? I really have no idea how sponge on pips rubber works (long medium short pips)? no sponge << this one illegal but some players use it, 0.5mm, 1.5mm, 1.9mm, etc)
  3. Glue: How many layers of WBG? What are the advantages? So far I always do 1 on blade and 1 on rubber, but recently I watch video telling that it's good to put 4 layers on the blade.

That's all for now, I hope someone will answer these questions. Thank you :D
