I feel that Dignics 05 is extremely overrated. Is it just me?

Many players are complaining that F1 cars are sucky, undrivable, and everything else, when in fact, they're nowhere near Max Verstappen's level.
This post is actually funny both ways.

Nobody here on the forums who *likes* dignics plays Max Verstappen-level TT either. Amateurs who like to play with pro-level equipment are every bit as laughable as the ones who complain about equipment that was never intended for them being overrated trash.

D05 is just a hard-sponge grippy rubber. There are many. The TT brands have done very well to convince everyone that for the new ball we all simply must play with 53 degree or harder sponges and we will get 6000 rpms on our loops.

A very quick test will prove that for most people this is false advertising. If this news surprises anyone, I have a robot I'd like to sell you that can serve just like a human.

Most of us can play with hardbat if you that route. It's nor so much being convinced as much as knowing whether D05 makes something about your game more effective or not than say Fastarc G1. For me it clearly does, others who it doesn't, good luck to them. Could I play with inboosted Hurricane? Sure, I have tried it and liked it. But my loops are faster and go with less effort with 05. Could I play with Vega Pro or something softer? Probably but I have not liked softer rubber since the ball change in 2015. And it was just me, i did fine with them before them but I lost so much spin I used Big Dipper, found I could play with it and largely stuck with it and similar rubbers since.

But yes, maybe I could use hardbat if it came to that. But everyone has preferences and I don't think anyone should put down differences in play to preferences without running experiments.

The better you play, the better quality equipment you need and vice versa. This is because faster and more grippy rubber can create more speed and spin, but it also reacts more to incoming spin and you need to be able to counter it. The Dignics series is designed for experienced amateurs and professionals. For intermediate level amateurs, Butterfly has developed Glayzer and Glayzer 09C, which forgive more mistakes and are much easier to play.
Try this and maybe it will make your game easier and more fun. If you don't want Glayzer, I would recommend Nittaku Fastarc G1. Very good grippy linear rubber that is equally good for spinning and blocking, which also is very durable.
This post kinda reminds me of typical gaming experience.

A gamer will start off with low level and low level gear and the monster / enemies he faces will be appropriate for his level.

As the gamer level up, he will need better gears to deal with higher level enemies and level bosses etc.

Similarly, as we level up our game, we tend to seek faster, harder, grippier rubber to deal with ever more skillful players.

Life imitates game. Imagine, this, as you level up, then you go back to your old club and face-off with those players from your old club, do you realize it becomes boring to play with them right?

It is like you have reached level 100 and when you revisit the kevel 1 of the dungeon, you will be bored as hell.

True?

By the way, yes, there is something to this. I also think that it is easier to play with an amateur who overestimates his own strength and uses a quick setup than if he used equipment that suits his level.

The other thing I wanted to mention as a long time D05 user is that you absolutely need to know the exact spin type on the ball. There are 7 major types - pendulum sideunder, pendulum sidetop, reverse pendulum sideunder, reverse pendulum sidetop, pure heavy under, no spin, pure topspin. If you are not actively classifying the spin and adjusting correctly to it, you will struggle with D05 imo. Some ppl can do the calcs automatically in their brain but I find it much better if I intentionally read and classify every single incoming ball. This way, if you make a mistake you know precisely why you made the mistake.

Whereas with some other rubber types you dont have to be so precise in reading the ball.

But anyway, having the setup force you to read the ball correctly is a really good thing to have.

I see this way too, everyone has preferences - it would not come to mind to neither not respect those in others, neither to be dependent on whether others respect mine... BUT actually as usual, I'm preaching water, but drinking wine - some players in the club constantly tell me I should stop playing with chinese rubbers on the FH and it does influence me - I do consider T05H LOL...

Anyway, my 2 cents. I played with cca 47 deg. ESN rubbers on the BH, then tried Rakza XX (cca 50) and it indeed is a bit too hard for me. Glayzer with its 48 deg. feels simply better for my level, which even though I do hope is increasing, is still not high enough for me to reap benefits of harder BH rubbers... Maybe later...

Why don't you consider playing hybrids on the forehand?

What a coincidence, my friend!

Just last week after my session with my regular practice partner and over some drinks, he commented when I use my T05H, he says it play different than how I regular play. The ball behaves differently from the usual tensor soft rubber that I used previously. It felt... CHINESE to him somehow. Go figure!

Why don't you consider playing hybrids on the forehand?

I had BlueGrip C1 and C2 I think 2 years ago, and it was not bad but didn't feel as good as chinese rubbers (I mean those that I like) to me. But I don't really mind using hybrids, I could as well try D09C or ZGR (Tronix or Dynaryz, well it's heavy), or Nuzn 55 (probably heavy too). Or something else, e.g. recently I tried Xiom China Guang (I think its 55 deg.) and it felt good on Nittaku Basaltec Outer... Something of those I could try - when I kill my current rubbers, and I find the inner power to divorce, if I find it...

I also have a very special blade from Sergio, it has ultra-dense ayous core, and ehh, it's perhaps a tiny bit over my level - it doesn't help in receive, the core doesn't kind of absorb the impact much... You can feel it when you compare with others... At the same time I really love it in power play... Note that these "realizations" come with time... I consider getting into queue with Sergio again, until the time comes I might feel what I'd like to modify more precisely... Cheers.

This topic made me curious. I just glued my spare D05 on my Golden Viscaria instead of T19. On the other side I have T05 as I'm used to use. I will check what is all about in this hot topic.
With Golden V; what ever rubber you out on, your level
will always be 2,200.

As someone who recently switched from a soft rubber on a BH to D05: I love it. Super punchy, fast and spinny. However it does require that I use my legs and my body more and engage the wrist upon contact for me to make a good shot. You can even hear it when that happens (sound is different when those things don’t happen). I have never used my legs as much on the BH as much as I am now, so it’s making me a better player. Is it for everyone? Def not.

Was not my point. Which I did not make clearly either.

Many people try to use equipment that is too pro-level for them, then blame the setup for their problems. This is funny.

Many other people use equipment that is too pro-level for them, and post about how amazingly great they play with D09c on their $350 Bty SZLC. But in reality they would win more points with a $120 complete setup. This is equally funny to me.

We have both kinds on the forum, alternately hating on and praising the same stuff. None of that feedback is useful to anyone else trying to decide what to play.

Yeah, but i am not as convinced of this as I used to be. After all, we have Gozo, who is enamored with rocket launcher hinoki bazookass. He is used to playing with it, likes playing with it, and isn't in the mood to use something else.

It is possible to use blades that are too slow just as it is possible to use blades that are too fast. Cost isn't the primary determinant of speed. So the question is since speed tends convey an advantage which admittedly is reduced by inconsistency to be an offsetting disadvantage, does the speed win more points than the inconsistency loses against the people the player is trying to beat?

We often default to believing the answe is no. Maybe it is but I don't believe we should just accept the default anymore. After all, the 1200‐rated Achuma styled ladies in South Korea with OX pips on backhand are trained on really fast blades. The real question is suitability for style and player not blade speed. More so with the new ball. My main point is that suitability is complicated.

Yeah, speaking of that Gozo, that fellow not only use a rocket laucher type blade, even his rubber is extra super trampoline like MXP / Tenergy type.

He loves to launch kinetic projectile at Mach 2.5 towards his opponents.

NB: His aim of playing TT isn't primarily to win matches, its to hit big winners and have them captured on vids.

I agree with this.

You probably remember I played a few years with a Sweden classic. Actually a long series of Sweden classics because I was a bat-smasher back in the days of my youth.

That blade was too slow - full stop. Even with the 40mm celluloid ball it was already too slow.

People also develop bad technique by over-swinging when their setup doesn't easily yield decent speed. It's the inverse of grooving a T-rex swing with fast setups while desperately trying to keep the ball on the table.

This line from your post is really important.
He is used to playing with it, likes playing with it, and isn't in the mood to use something else.

To go back to the OP -- D05 is clearly a bad rubber *for him.* He dislikes it.

I also do not enjoy playing with D05. I am used to Tenergy, like playing with it, and am in no mood to use something else. But for you it performs well and you like it.

So is it a good rubber? Is it overrated? Dunno. Depends on your experience when you play it.

And no subjective impressions anybody posts will really be useful information for a guy who hasn't tried D05 for himself.
