I've posted a few times now but never did introduce myself - apologies for that 🙂

Hi there, I'm Shannon - a professional blade maker and table tennis junkie from Perth Western Australia... Arguably the world's most isolated capital city, with the possible exception of Honolulu.

As a player I'm an aggressive two-wing looper with a love of the backhand flick.

As a blade maker I walk a slightly different path to most. I like to focus far more on unusual, environmentally friendly and sustainable materials and methods, as opposed to the current trend of relying on expensive modern synthetic composite materials.

While a large portion of my blades feature all the most commonly-used materials, in the majority of cases I prefer to use:

• Locally sourced, Native Australian table tennis woods (many of which are the equal of anything from Africa or Europe, with a small handful being truly exceptional);
• Natural composite fibers and biodegradable resins
• Experimental designs and/or techniques
• Unusual and/or obscure non-threatened wood species from around the world.

My work takes me all over Perth metro, so I'm actually a member of three different clubs currently 😂

1. HotShots at the TTWA center in Vic Park is where I usually play;

2. I also play occasionally at the Fremantle TT Club in Sampson, as I have some regular clients down that way;

3. Very occasionally I also go to have a hit at Top Spins in Leaderville as well.

How about yourself? 🙂

Nice! Yep I have been to all 3 before. I am in Albany this year though. When I go back to the city, I will go visit those clubs there

I'm from Bengal, India, and I've been playing table tennis for about 15 years on and off. I did get some formal coaching back in my school days, and played at state level qualifiers and (later) college tournaments, but now mostly play at local clubs. I've been a long time lurker on this forum (and of course a TTD subscriber)... finally decided to formally join.

Gozo is now Gozo Aruna.

My club mates attaches the Aruna label to me for my massive massive FH that unlike the original Aruna Quadri of Nigeria, this amateur Aruna often misses its mark. Yes! Yes! It is a ridicule; but I wear it with pride and honour to remind myself to spin more and hit less.

The saving grace is; if it lands, there is a 99.5% chance it is an outright winner. The operative word here is IF it land on the table.

BH wise, mine is also like the original Aruna in the sense it is more of a blocky / punchy type.

Other than that; I play TT for havin'a gud time!

Hey y'all! I used to play table tennis as a kid when my dad brought me to his practice sessions and started training me along. No events, just playin' for the fun of it, at least myself!
After an around 10+ year break I've taken it up again since the workplace's office has a table! Restarted a few months ago, recently became a self-admitted EJ (oh no my savings).
My favourite player at the moment is Hina Hayata, who I just find really fun to watch play, very lively! The rest of the team is fun too!

I was thinking about introducing myself but dived deep into the World Cup 'watchparty' and forgot.
My name is Przemek, I'm from Poland and I rediscovered table tennis recently. For some 20 years climbing was my recreational sport of choice, but only after returning to table tennis I realised this is what I should have been doing all along. Seriously, it kind of never occurred to me that the activity should be enjoyable while it lasts, not only after training So now I'm playing like crazy. Whenever I can, with whomever I can.

Hello all! Thanks for contributing to a great forum!

I have been a couch potato for the last 25 years, while I sort of forgot about table tennis. But during Olympics 2024 in Paris only the table tennis caught my interest.

Big thanks to WTT for sharing on their Youtube channel. Couldn't be much better.

Since couch potatos usually don't age gracefully, I decided to try to play table tennis. So I went down to the local club to participate in their training for seniors. Once a week, 1 and a half hour. What I heard was "borrow a paddle, find somebody to play with and enjoy". I was paired up with a software designer playing with the Stiga Cybershape. He was clearly better than me. Truls Möregårdh was clearly better than him.

I ended up playing doubles with two 80-year-olds rediscovering table tennis after a 50-yearish absence and another senior beginner without basics.

I enjoyed it, even if playing in slippery socks. Now I have prepared with shoes and paddle of my own, my approach will be to practice one stroke at a time. No hurry - the most fun is learning and improving, no need to rush that experience.

I only have two questions regarding the training I participated in. How come beginners are paired up to play with each other? Hard to improve if you always paddle low quality players? And how come even the lousy ones wants to play matches? Is winning a couple of points more important than improving?

Forgot to introduce myself to the forum. Hey! I am Sam my Chinese friends call me Zhendong and my fav player is Fan Zhendong but since I was too lazy to type Zhendong for my username I ended up typing zhzhzhz. My first time playing was about 2 years ago when I was forced to be in the table tennis club for middle school. I love training to improve myself so I can crush my opponents, but I suck at table tennis.

I started as a shakehand player but after watching my coach play penhold I found it cool and begged him to teach me. He said no. I learned penhold with another coach and showed him, he approved of me playing penhold.
I was taught to play traditional one-sided penhold but later learned RPB and copied Xu Xin`s grip to fit the new playing style. since I learned RPB recently I do not use it that much but surprise my opponents with it during matches.

I am desperately looking for a girl maybe like Miwa Harimoto so that's one personal thing yall know about me!!

hello all
i played tabletennis in a club in germany when i was 12-14 years old in 1986-88. made it as far as 2nd spot in regional tournaments and 3rd in my county. then puberty, girls, punk, art, alcohol, marriage, cats, etc took over.
fast forward to autumn 2024 (now i'm 50 and in copenhagen) i started playing again with a friend who had more or less the same tabletennis 'career'. i bought exactly the same bat i stopped with 36 years ago (stiga allround classic, mark v, donic quattro). but got too excited again quite quickly and now want to try out all there is. just assembled a racket myself for the first time ever with nittaku fastarc c-1 and moristo sp on donic dotec. quite enjoy the set-up but like to try out more. i still can sort of play, but the proper technique and physical speed is gone, so i'm thinking of joining a club as i'd love to get better again.
i left tabletennis as a kid and came back as a pensionist ;-)
