I personally don't think there has been a Japanese player who has achieved a greater feat in singles since then.
In the quarterfinal against Ding Ning (then WR1), she overcame 5 match points to win the match.
She also won in straight games against Zhu Yuling (WR2) in the semifinal and Chen Meng (WR5) in the final.
It was quite moving to see her at the award ceremony with 3 CNT players on either side of her in a completely away match on their home turf, China.)

Ito admitted as much. She knew she had to get the game in the second half of G6, and she thought oh no to herself and felt dizzy again. For G7, she was up 4:0 without doing anything and her body was relaxed and felt good but then in the second half her mind started drifting and couldn't command her body. She was able to score points with one-shot winners, but when it came to the rallies, or when she was being forced to take a shot or being hit hard, she ended up getting pushed around and it was tough. She knew it would be difficult in the second half if it turned into a rally game, so she wanted to get in as many one-shot winners as possible.

日本女子卓球代表の新監督に就任した中澤鋭氏が、2028年のロサンゼルスオリンピックに向けた抱負と戦略を月刊卓球王国の最新号で語った。

中澤監督は「ロスオリンピックで金メダルを獲るためには、まず世界選手権で中国を破らなければ現実味が帯びてこない」と強い意志を示した。
監督としての新たな役割について、「選手たちを世界の舞台でメダル獲得へ導きたいという想いが常にあった」と説明。「代表監督として、女子ナショナルチームの合宿を増やして、中国を打倒するための情報共有を図りたい」と述べた。

合宿では、実力者の早田ひなや平野美宇らが「中国選手に勝った方法」をディスカッションし、情報を共有することでチーム全体の力を引き上げていく考えを示した。「ナショナルチームとしての強力な体制を整え、中国に対抗するための戦略を練りたい」と語り、選手のメンタル面や戦術面の重要性も強調した。

また、5月の世界選手権ドーハ大会に向けて短期間の強化策として「サービスと3球目攻撃の精度を上げたい」としながらも、長期的には「ラリー戦の強化が課題」と語った。

中澤監督は、「2028年のロスオリンピックで団体金メダルを目指す上では、まず世界選手権での戦果が重要だ」と強調。強豪中国に挑む日本女子ナショナルチームの構想に期待したい。

松島の試合結果に驚愕してここきたらアホの大荒れが平常運転でなんかむしろ安心したわ
篠塚の試合だけ後から見たけど、安定感というより単純に強くなってると思う。ここ最近の試合結果だけ見たら安定感といえば篠塚より寧ろ戸上って印象
レジムスキのあの内容なら少し前の篠塚なら全然負けてた。次勝てたらホントに凄いよ

Ishida, the girl who won, has never competed internationally and will play her first WTT Youth event at WTT YCT Helsingborg 2025 (and then WTT YCT Sandefjord 2025).

Well, I wish them all the best of luck. Hard to predict what will happen in the future when they're just 12/13 years old right now, but Miku has had some pretty good international results in the Youth category including multiple titles in the U13/U15 category. She is 2-0 H2H vs. Cocona who is a year older. She also played well in U17 making the SF at Gangneum, S. Korea before losing to Su Tsz Tung (16 yr old) in a decider. There also seems to be more emphasis on world ranking (at least for the Olympics) going forward vs. selection trials but who knows what the JTTA will come up with.
