JTTA to consider holding XT matches in T.League sometime before LA28.

https://hochi.news/articles/20250607-OHT1T51220.html?page=1

Catching up.

In her latest interview with Table Tennis Kingdom, Mori reveals that she started thinking about retiring 2 years ago and like I pointed out she got greedy and ended up putting more pressure on herself. She will turn to coaching at Foresta Table Tennis School after taking a break.

https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/16103108ee8745d6745405ccd13bc56a305d48cb
"I also wanted to be free from the mental pressure," Mori said, and the decision to retire was solidified two years ago.
"I wanted to retire while people still told me I could do it. There was a time when I was aiming for the World Championships and the Olympics, but the wall of the Japanese national team was high, and I felt that I needed to set a goal for myself."
Mori has been competing in the top scene in Japan since her teens, finishing as runner-up in the All Japan Singles in her second year of high school, and representing Japan in the World Championships the following year. However, behind her brilliant achievements, there was also a time when she reflected, "It was painful when I remember it."
"As I achieved results, the expectations of those around me increased, and I ended up carrying pressure on myself. I may have had more confidence in my high school days when I was working hard."

If it wasn't Mizutani who knocked some sense into the Japanese management, Togami was going to stay in Japan.

https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/d8e3dcbfada6b60a33b30a0e999839284b8dbd1e

The person who pushed him to make the decision was Mizutani Jun, a former member of the Japanese national team. During the World Championships in Busan in February 2024, the president of the management company asked Mizutani, "Should Togami stay in Japan?" Mizutani immediately replied, "What? You're not planning on letting him play in Japan, are you? Togami should go abroad."

After that, Ochsenhausen called out to Togami, but Togami had no hesitation. Ochsenhausen is a traditional club in a small town with a population of about 9,000. Togami turned down the favorable terms from the T League and chose this "wilderness" without hesitation.
The environment in Germany was harsher than he had imagined. There were not enough practice partners, and the idea of returning to Japan during the WTT tour emerged, but he made up his mind to "do it all there."

"I never went into a match with confidence in the first half of the season. Still, the experience of controlling myself and fighting was great," Togami said.
Togami has grown a lot outside of table tennis as well. "By coming into contact with differences in culture and values, I have broadened my horizons as a person," he said in an interview in December 2024.

Catching up.

TAKAGI Mina has more on Togami's internal struggle seen in the mixed-zone interview after his win over Jorgic at WTTC 2025.

KONNO Noboru also posted a snippet of his interview with Togami back in 12/2024.

https://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/tabletennis/news/2025/05/037970.html

He won the 3rd round against Japan's ace Harimoto Tomokazu (Toyota Motors/WR4) 4-1. Despite the win, he confessed the pain of fighting his friend, saying, "I have really mixed emotions. It was a battle with myself."

Then, in the 4th round on the 21st (Thu), he defeated Slovenia's tough opponent Jorgic (WR10) in a fierce full-game battle with a score of 12-10, and was at a loss for words in the interview immediately after.

"After beating Harimoto (in the 3rd round), I honestly wasn't confident that I could win again. I was worried about what would happen if I lost, so I thought it would be better to leave it to Harimoto."

Tears well up in his eyes. He slaps his cheeks repeatedly with both hands to cheer himself up, but he just can't contain the emotions welling up inside him.

It's hard to imagine from his fighting spirit on the court, but he also had negative thoughts like "Harimoto is better than me..."

At the root of this is the inescapable regret he felt at last summer's Paris Olympics.

In his first appearance at the big stage, he lost in the 3rd round of the singles and finished 4th in the teams, failing to contribute to Japan's medal win.

9 months have passed since then, but he still can't completely wipe away his disappointment.

"I felt a great sense of responsibility, and there was a time when I wondered if I was really doing the right thing by playing table tennis," says a tearful Togami.

However, after beating Jorgic on the biggest stage of the WTTC, where he has faced him many times in the German Bundesliga, where he has been playing mainly since last year, and knowing each other's strengths and weaknesses, he was able to overcome his doubts.

●-You went to Germany partly because you wanted to play with those kinds of players, right?
Togami: Of course. Recently, European players have been ranking high in the rankings, and I wanted to know why they are getting stronger.
●-The keyword is "ability to adapt", right? When I interviewed the Lebrun brothers, they said, "I'm fine with playing with female players, with shortpips rubber, or with longpips rubber."
Togami: Playing matches is a way to improve my adaptability, and coming to Germany and practicing with various players is also a way to improve my adaptability. Even if I get a serve or receive with various spins, I can choose various ways to return the ball. Even though I rarely get to practice with Lebrun, coming to Germany has allowed me to hold a training camp and steal their training methods, and I discovered a lot of interesting things.
●-Even though you were worried about the amount of practice at first, it was a half-year period where you realized a lot of things.
Togami: It's really fulfilling. Since I came to the Bundesliga, I wanted to play in a new environment, and I want everyone in Japan to see me now. Though not much has changed, I'd like you to see a slightly different Togami Shunsuke. (Excerpt from Table Tennis Kingdom PLUS)

Togami has overcome one hurdle and is in front of the big medal wall, but he was just one step away from overcoming it. Even though he has started on his path as a professional, he is committed to the idea that "it's not money, but getting stronger first. Money comes after you get stronger."

Togami, who has a pure approach to table tennis, has been training hard in Germany and has a new coach, Ueda Jin. This is the real start.
The day when he overcomes the medal wall is surely near. This Doha tournament was a stage that clearly proved that Togami Shunsuke is a player with that kind of potential.

It's teams, but there are multiple teams and even both men and womens teams playing at the same time so they need multiple courts. During the current time period, courts 1-8 are played by 8 Women's teams with each pair of teams taking 2 courts. Same for the men on courts 9-16.

So I’m currently watching right now Denso Polaris currently both womens are occupying Court 1 and 2 and playing seperate matches.

Are there two different tiers of Denso Polaris Womens teams? Usually with teams you just play the one court and wait until a match finishes before the next player comes on whereas here both players play at the same time but on different courts. Are they doing this to reduce the waiting time of each match by playing the singles matches on seperate courts then the doubles match on the one court only?

It's the same team. Most likely to reduce the time. Imagine 8 mens teams and 8 womens teams all playing at the same time. Saves a lot of time if you can use 2 courts. Team matches are scheduled for 2 hour time slot. There's also more Division 2 matches scheduled in this arena for the next time slot.

More catching up.

Sato's latest interview with Table Tennis Kingdom reveals that she still gets support from Miki House, just as I suspected.

Given that Sato is "reluctant to leave" and "was just running away from facing reality", is it fair to assume there is some bad blood with Miki House?

https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/74fe4e225b11c0a5d4a6e439f8ff117301e76cbd

"I want to finish it so that I have no regrets. I want to challenge myself as long as I think I can grow."

The WTTC in Doha start tomorrow. Sato Hitomi is a talented player who once reached 9th place in the world rankings, but she will not be on the center court in Doha. She lost in the final of the ATTC selection trial last year and was disappointed to miss the chance to represent the world.

In April of this year, she left Miki House, where she had been for many years, and joined Nippon Paint, but she is also supported by Miki House. She won two consecutive tournaments at the WTT Feeder in April, and is showing enthusiasm for the matches starting in June. Although she lost to Harimoto Miwa at the All-Japan TTC in January, she commented after the match, "I don't know what the people around me think, but I still believe in my potential." She also participates in the T League, which is a factor that supports her motivation.
Sato Hitomi talks about her own table tennis and says, "In a good sense, there are many things I have not yet been able to do, and I feel that I can still do it." Furthermore, "I couldn't quit because I wanted to do it in my heart. I'm reluctant to leave. I was just running away from facing reality," she said, emphasizing that she was not worried about her age, and reflected on the reason why she was able to continue playing.

Sato, who believes in continuing to grow, started table tennis in the 2nd grade of elementary school and has been on the path to becoming a chopper. "When I joined Miki House, I was told that 'choppers get stronger the more experience they gain,' and I've finally come to understand what that means," she said, feeling the unique charm of choppers. Aiming for the Los Angeles Olympics, she expressed her enthusiasm, saying, "I'll aim for it in 4 years at first."

She also said, "It's fine for some people to achieve great things as they get older," and expressed her hope that "there will be more players who don't give up easily." In the future, she expressed her intention to continue challenging herself as long as she can grow, and said that she wants to be someone who gives hope to young players, and she renewed her determination, saying, "I want to do my best so that I have no regrets." Kihara (14) 3-0 Hayata (3) (10, 7, 9)
G3 36, Hayata's crossover issue shows no sign of recovery. It seems she will have to rely on painkillers to play well from now on. Too high a price to pay.

WS QF
ZYL (9)(WC) 3-2 Odo (2)(WC) (-5, 9, 3, -11, 8)
3 wins out of 3 meetings. So weak. If not for combination players Idesawa and Hashimoto...

G2 37, 67 TO for Togami, 77, 78, 108, 109, 119
Deja vu of MT F at WTTC 2022 and MS QF at WTTC 2025. This is fatal as LGL told LGY at Marvelous 12 2017. Togami will turn 24 this August (reinforcing the magic number 23).
Again in G4. TOGAMIII....

With Kihara making a SF at SC Ljubljana, she now has enough points to leapfrog Miu Hirano at least until the US Smash:

Miu Hirano 1076 pts
Miyuu Kihara 920 + 210 - 20 = 1110

Both will be in a mini race along with Nagasaki to grab the 6th ranking spot needed for Grand Smashes (NER limit of 6).
