Expanded roster allows more continental representation while keeping the difficulty high enough. OTOH, Hirano won't have the luxury of not caring about world ranking anymore since there are four players ahead of her. She will have to reach semifinals at Asian Cup herself, or hope that one of her teammates wins it to free up that extra slot.

I wonder why Sally Moyland is not playing Pan Am Cup. She's listed in the Qualified list but not in either the Main Draw or Prelimary Round Lists. She had some really solid wins over good players at the Singapore Smash: Isabella Lupulesku, Diya Chitale (India's national champion), and Lea Rakovac.

Playing system revealed. Still 4 games for Stage 1, same as last year. The order of play for group matches has been modified, though.

3. WORLD CUP PLAYING SYSTEM
3.1. Seeding shall be done according to the latest available World Ranking (Week 15 –
8th Apr 2025)
3.2. The tournament shall consist of 2 stages.
3.3. In Stage 1 the players will be divided into 16 groups of 3 players, with all members
of a group playing each other (round robin).
3.4. For Stage 1, the highest-ranked player will be placed in Group 1, the 2nd highest in
Group 2, the 3rd highest in Group 3 and the 4th highest in Group 4; the remaining
players will be drawn into the other groups using a modified snake system 4 at a
time in ranking order.
To ensure that the final round matches are significant for each competing player,
the order of play in group matches will be – round one 2 vs 3; round two 1 vs loser
of match 1, round three 1 vs winner of match 1.
3.5. Players from the same Association will be drawn into separate groups.
3.6. The first-place finishers of each group shall qualify for the Stage 2 of the
competition.
3.7. Stage 2 of the competition shall consist of a knockout draw.
3.8. The draw for players will be as follows:
• First-place finisher of Group 1 will be placed in position 1;
• First-place finisher of Group 2 will be placed in position 16;
• First-place finishers of Groups 3 and 4 will be drawn into positions 8 and 9.
• First-place finishers of Groups 5 to 16 will be drawn randomly into the remaining
positions.
3.9. There shall be no separation by Association in Stage 2.
3.10. Matches of Stage 1 shall be 4 games (result 4-0,3-1 or 2-2).
3.11. Final ranking will be determined in terms of Regulation 3.7.5, excluding match
points, and based solely on the ratios of wins to losses first in games and then
points, as far as is necessary to resolve the order.
3.12. Matches of Stage 2 shall be the best of seven games (7).
3.13. The tournament shall be played in accordance with the Laws of Table Tennis
and the Regulations for International Competition.

目前Deadlines不变(但国际乒联可更改)，报名截止不等于公开参赛名单(公开主动权在国际乒联)，本次报名没有在前台显示报名过程和具体名单，只有世排分配日当天显示过一次男女各46人的邀请名单。目前只能查询到报名人数：女单45人，男单44人，最终参赛人数应为男女各48人。

It was in summer the last time because of the tight schedule so probably the same this year too

Last year, there was Olympics so that made sense. But this year, we will have World Cup in April and then WTTC in May in Doha. Not the best planning if you ask me. But I am not on ITTF or WTT.

I feel like World Cup was traditionally held in the 2nd half of the year except on a few occasions, before WTT took over, just before the WTGF.

By tradition in the past, WTTC was held at the start of summer (between May and June), Olympics at the end of summer (between July and August) and World Cup at the start of fall (between September and October).

Now it's World Cup then WTTC then Olympics. To be honest, it makes more sense in terms of hierarchy as it raises the prestige of World Cup, which is commonly referred to as 水盃/Water Cup [Water = Weak] in mainland China because of the timing and competition format.
