How many players can qualify for the Singles World Cup in Macao. Is it just the 4 players that make it to the semi finals?

No Hwan Bae or Adi Sareen? Aren’t these players higher ranking than Finn Luu and Nicholas Lum. They were in the finals of ITTF Oceania Championships 3 months ago?

Any reason why the Australia women team were allowed to have 3 players for this event. Did someone pulled out and the next highest individual ranking was an Australian player?

Unlucky for Alfred Dela Pena against Finn Luu. He was on the comeback in the 5th game at 9-10 but Finn got lucky with the net ball to win the match 4-1 against Alfred.

Is the world cup format changing? In the past only the cup winner has qualified, now it is 4 players.
The 4 male players that have qualified for the Singles World Cup in Macao:
• Nicholas Lum
• Finn Luu
• Dean Shu
• Alfred Dela Pena

The 4 women players that have qualified for the Singles World Cup in Macao:
• Maylis Giret
• Chunli Li
•Jocelyn Lam
• Constantina Psihogios

On ITTF or ITTF-Oceania Facebook pages there has been no mention of Yangzi Liu or Minhyung Jee qualifying for the Singles World Cup. They did top their group and went straight to the Semi finals same as the Aussie male players Nicholas Lum and Finn Luu.

How did Maylis Giret qualify for the World Cup where she lost against Lulu Anolyn in the Pacific Cup Final.

How did Jocelyn Lam qualify for the World Cup where she lost against Chunli Li in the quarter finals.

Man I wish there was more explanation on how these players have qualified for the Singles World Cup 2025. I thought only those who make it to the semi finals qualify for the World Cup.

The women’s qualification presents a more nuanced picture. Constantina Psihogios from Australia, Maylis Giret from New Caledonia, and New Zealand’s Li Chunli and Jocelyn Lam have secured their World Cup berths, navigating the complex eligibility criteria that define the region’s representation.

It is completely unclear why these criteria are not published anywhere.

Right but my main point is that it means they are expanding the World Cup format to increase the total number of participants. Previously only one player qualified up until and including last year. Now there are 4 qualifiers per gender from Oceania, this means the classic top 16 main draw plus small qualification draw has been replaced with likely a significantly larger qualification draw stage.

Yeah, but the bigger draw was already in place last year. That's my point.

I think it might be even bigger this year then, maybe it was 2 for Oceania last year. Pan Am Cup has also expanded to this format instead of 2 entries per country it’s now open to qualification with seeding into main draw as well. As such USATT did not fund players for it this year.
