It was such a pity. Official response is that fzd himself doesn’t want to participate.
Only someone intentionally obtuse would think FZD was still interested in playing in TT for China. His social media speaks volumes about his priorities. Maybe Tony would reignite his love for the sports in Europe.

It's a great question. Maybe because Xiang Peng lost to Sora at the last event? Also I think they wanted a floater capable of beating Harimoto in an early round. Out of the list of such potential floaters, Xue Fei is probably as dangerous as it gets. But maybe they might still change the list for all we know.
Lol, so many rumors abound here usually disseminated by the "I have omniscient level of inside info" crooners of course, that it's now normal to assume a rumour is true, and I am called a cynic. How did we get to the point where we readily believed a whole spot would be given to a player just on the basis of "maybe he can beat Harimoto for us"?, China's best bet at beating Hari is still Chuqin tbh. He's still the guy who's shown that quality over a lot of matches, not just a one-off thing. So many Chinese fringe players have beaten Harimoto at least once, just based on a quick think; HYZ, XF, CYY, XYB, even NGK lol.
If Xue Fei has Harimoto number and only Harimoto's, makes more sense to have him as a practice partner/analytics team for when the top players play Harimoto. If he can't beat any of the other guys, he's not contributing much to the team's priorities. Unless China would rig a heavily scrutinised and live streamed draw, then I don't see how this assumption doesn't fall apart. But we could always find someone who has a story known to him alone certainly.

The conversation being had was transparent for everyone to see. I am not sure whether you can read or not. I was clearly speculating before being informed that a selection trial took place and the players selected were winners. That top 10 players like Kuai Man and Xiang Peng won't play singles is not trivial. But since you know that all things in CNT are transparent and based solely on merit and use rules written out where all can see them, be sure to continue to point out these rules. I will always learn.

Even if things are not meritorious, would you assume a player selected by say the German team or the Korean team at the discretion of the coaches only is a floater targeting another player in an individual competition? This is certainly not meritocratic, is it? And before you say "muh history", Is there Chinese history of selecting Chinese players for the **WTTC** with a view to targeting a player? Selection trials have been the mainstay of the selection process of the CNT for WTTC. Olympics is a different ball game of course.

there is a lot of FZD fans that still believe he will come back
I personally think his retirement sign a year ago was very clear and I actually thought he would retire before Ma Long.

CNT players are not short of money so don't really need leagues in Europe for that matter.
in facts, most European clubs won't be able to afford someone like FZD.
I'm working with a top 15 player and not many players can afford, so I know.

while in China, they got all these corporate tournaments, 10s (to 100s) of thousand rmb per day.... easy money

Look at what happened in Germany at the discretion of Roaskopf in picking Boll over Franziska. These things are not about China per se. It is about trying to understand what drives a decision. It can be wrong or right but we adapt to the information we are given. You can make ot sound like it is baseless speculation but we know better.

Replica trophies for MD/WD/XD are proposed by CTTA. MD/WD events are going to get heated once again nearly 2 decades later.

Can Miwa get it done this time against WMY, if they meet?

The MS draw for JNT can't get much worse than that. At least 2 MS bronze medals up for grabs.

Can Yoshimura/Odo do better this time against Ri Jong Sik/Kim Kum Yong?

R3/R32 instead. Same for Ovtcharov and LYJ.

Do I understand it correctly that the 5th entry for MS japan is kenji matsudaira?

Why is that???
he qualified.

there are qualification pathways and if the player qualifies, they are in.
same with Taiwan.
they don't just pick the 5 best players or 5 highest WR players.

this has its pros and cons for sure, but anyone can enter the qualifications and anyone who meet the criteria can qualify, fair rights for all.
