in Tokyo from Jan16 to Jan22
official site: http://japantabletennis.com/zennihon2017/

There are 32 seeds
There were some surprises last year, and I think (not 100% sure) that the draw is made according to last year's results and not according to the players rankings. So I'm presenting the scheduled 1/4 finals + where the other top players are

So here are the scheduled quarterfinals for men's singles

Mizutani - Ooya (but Takagiwa, Morizono ,Kenta Matsudaira are in the same block)
Morita - Yoshimura (Machi and Jin are in the same block)
Kasahara - Niwa (Oshima, Muramatsu, Ueda, Shiono in the same block)
Sakai - Chan (Kenji Matsudaira in the same block) -> this block seems less dense than the other ones...

So here are the scheduled quarterfinals for women's singles

Ishikawa - Hamamoto (Yamamoto, Misaki Morizono, Wakamiya are here)
Sato - Kyoka Kato (Doi, Tashiro are here)
Ito - Hayata (Hashimoto is here)
Matsuzawa - Hirano (Mori, Miyu Kato, Maeda, Abe are here)

Fukuhara is not playing this year. She is focusing on her new life as a housewife it seems.
She did not participate in the qualifying tournament to be a national team member, so she will miss the 2017 World Championships. Maybe her long time in the national team is already over at 28....

My anticpations:
QF:
Mizutani - Kenta (3:1/4:2)
Machi - Yoshimura (0:3/0:4)
Oshima - Ueda (3:2/4:3)
Kenji - Kazuhiro (1:3/1:4)
SF:
Mizutani - Yoshimura (3:2/4:2)
Oshima - Kazuhiro (3:0/4:1)
Final:
Mizutani - Oshima (3:0/4:2)

The Ueda, Niwa, Muramatsu, Oshima, Shiono block is really tight.

Where is Harimoto?

Last year was his first one (?) on the big stage.
He actually lost to one of my coaches, a university student called Kanbara (not qualified this year !) in the first round. It will be probably his career highlight LOL

So he is not seeded and has to fight from the bottom,
well not exactly, he is given a bye on the first round, and he would meet his first seeded player in the 4th round (round of 64), Yuki HIRANO, then MACHI, MORITA, and then YOSHIMURA (QF)

edit: apparently Yuki HIRANO is the elder brother of Miu, and a very good young player. He won the Tokyo Open beating all the big names

not sure what you mean with those numbers. Its best of 7 games (4 games win).
