Ma Long the recent World Cup Champion drove Beijing to victory in the Chinese National Team Championships Final on the 8th October 2012. Ma Long defeated his compatriots Wang Liqin in five full sets and Xu Xin in four sets. Also for the Beijing team Hou Yingchao defeated Shang Kun in 4 sets. Yan An of Beijing lost to inform Xu Xin of Shanghai. This gave Beijing the 3-1 win over Shanghai!
In an article by TableTennisTa Ma long reported, "I am very happy. This year's competition was harder compared to last year's. Because there are changes in the competition system, opponents starting in the quarterfinals were already strong. Actually, in today's game, we have encountered a lot of difficulties. My two matches were not particularly easy to win." Ma Long said in an interview after the match.
Meanwhile, Ma Long did not take all the credit for their victory and commended his teammate Hou Yingchao for a job well done. "I think Hou Yingchao's third game was very critical. We need to emphasise the necessity of team work. As the oldest in our team, brother Hou has played a leading role to stabilise our morale." Ma Long said, acknowledging the performance of the whole team.
