Hello,

I am looking for a modern "classic rubber for forehand and backhand, meaning something like Yasaka Mark V, Tibhar Varispin etc ... but updated, with more spin capacities and no tensor effect (or very very little), I don't need something very faster than mark V, but more spin will be very appreciate.

My goal is to have another blades that is All+ OFF- speed, very easy and forgiving. Usually I have blade like Septear, ZX GI etc ... with G1, V15 extra etc ... but I have to be honest with myself it is to fast for me. Since I tried Tibhar IV L with two Mark V soft, Donic waldner senso v2 with two varispin dtecs, Primorac, Samsonov alpha ect ... it is a revelation, all thing become so easy, it is very forgiving, I have the feeling to be a better player, lot of more balls stay on the table, and ok these blades and rubbers aren't the best on paper, but it give me so much confidence that i make my best shot and consistency with it.

So have you any suggestion for rubber that can match my search ?

Thank you

Gewo Nexxus EL pro 38, the best control and spinny rubber at the market right now, trust me :)

I think Rakza 7 is the modern-day equivalent of Mark V. Does everything well (enough), durable, and basically behaves tensor-light. Very predictable input vs output reaction.

I find it to be a little too bouncy on my FH, but that's more of a preference thing than the rubber being unfit for FH use.

Thank you a lot for your answers. Well the Rakza 7 for exemple is to fast for me. For others suggestions I will check.

There is no classic rubber replacement for Mark V, but a rubber with more spin at the same speed would be the commercial version of DHS H3.

On my actual setup (an SDC clone of the Victas ZX GI), I have two 8-80, I like them but it is borring to clean them every time. And I think that H3 (it is a lot slower than 8-80) on All blade will to much slow no ? Plus, while I really like chinese rubbers, they are not what we can call "very forgiving".

I saw rubber like the Yasaka Rigan, Andro Good, VJ 07 regular etc ... that could maybe fit y search.

you can try the goldarc 9. it uses the same sponge as the hurricane 8 80 but the topsheet is grippy and not sticky

OK, that's easy. Xiom Musa is what you're looking for.

Look for those with old-school high-density sponge like Butterfly Bryce Highspeed, Andro Plaxon 350/400/450/525, or those with slower porous sponge like Andro GTT 40/45, Donic Blues T1, Joola Zack, Xiom Vega Intro, Victas Ventus Regular...

Classic style rubbers:
  • Xiom Musa
Intro Tensor style Rubber (slight catapult effect)
  • Nittaku Factive
  • Xiom Vega Intro
For blades most 5 ply wood or 7 ply wood blades would work. Can go for something like butterfly korbel for 5 ply(good blade that has a lot of control and can last a person's entire Table tennis career. Anything limba top ply in the 5 ply world and 7 ply world will be pretty good for you as those blades tend to be control and spin oriented.

Judging by your profile, you're already using Nittaku Factive and septear inner carbon. If that setup is too fast for you then I don't think there is an issue with your equipment as those have a lot of control already. Spend money on coaching to control what you already have since factive + septear inner is a good combination already

I am surprised you didn't mention Flextra immediately.

@Romson why not just use actual Mark V for a while? May very well be that it helps you grow so much that you can switch back to something faster afterwards.
The OP qualifier are:

Modern
Classic

which is an oxymoron actually.

Mark V, Sriver are classic and not modern, so they should be disqualified.

To be truthful, if you think more deeply, a modern classic should be Tenergy05. It is THE Classic rubber for the modern era.

To add to what others have suggested, you can check out the Sanwei Gear Hyper.

I've used this rubber extensively until it went out of stock in my country, and I think it might be what you're looking for.
It's got moderate catapult, but unlike classic Chinese rubbers, it's much easier to play with. I would suggest you try the 37 degree version first ( it comes in 37, 38 & 39 hardness).

Xiom Vega Intro and Nittaku Factive are two that are often mentioned as the middle ground in between classic rubbers and modern tensors.
IMHO x Vega intro are very tensor like. I tried it on different blades but bounced too much.
My daughter on the other hand likes them. But she’s using it from first day she holds a blade.

Currently experiencing with Infinity VPS with Donic Desto F1 both sides. .... and having a blast with it :)
Think the rubber was introduced over 17 years ago, so I would not call it a modern classic. However, pretty sure Donic changed the characteristics of the rubber in time. Plenty enough speed, lots of control, rather low throw (but Infinity makes up for that).
