Hey,

I've been thinking of trying short pips for a while now but I don't know much about them.

I'm looking for something that does everything decently. Easy blocking on the table, chopping from mid distance, and to easily play drives on the table. The drive part is why I'm not going for long pips, tried them, didn't work out. I couldn't get used to not having an inverted-like drive. As for the chopping part, I'll figure it out, long pips are good for that, but suffer everywhere else in my game.

I'm on a budget too, so Chinese pips would be great. I like soft sponges too. I've seen so far the 802-40 Mystery III, 802 Mystery III, Legend 802 and Uranus Pro going for good prices.

The last one I played was Stiga Clippa, years and years ago. I really loved that rubber, it felt soft, nice and slow, and super easy to play. Any reccomendations?

In case it matters, they'll be put on a BTY Korbel Euro.

Thanks in advance!

802-40 is a very good, cheap way to try SP, it's a little more offense oriented than 802

either would be a good place to start

never played legend, mystery played fine

802-40 has more spin than 802, both are versatile SP, pick one

Victas Spectol S1?

Fits to your description except for being cheap and Chinese.
I agree Spectol S1 fits the description. I used S1(1.6mm) before on outer ALC blade. For me the setup was a little bit too slow for blocking and not good enough for chopping. I have now switched to Spectol S3(1.6mm) on an inner ALC blade and blocking has really improved and chopping ability is pretty much the same.

Can you play drives with that? Also chopping would be completely spineless, right?
I have something different and more slippery (butterfly super anti), i can play drives against any ball I want. But it wont be as spinny as inverted for sure.

I had one of these but I couldn't play drives, and it was super hard. Is yinhe pluto any better?
Pluto has a softer topsheet but it doesn't spin as well. Easier to hit with though. I'd also check out Butterfly Challenger Attack if you can find it. Its a soft and easygoing rubber that is very versatile

May I ask what blade you have them on? I'm putting them on a Korbel, not a def blade, so I'm sceptical they may be too fast for me.

I'll probably move towards the 802, if they fit me I could go to the s1 for an upgrade.

I now have Spectol S3 1.6mm on Harimoto ALC. Chopping from mid/long distance is possible, but not ideal. Blocking is very stable and better speed.

I used Spectol S1 1.6mm on a TB Spirit before. Blocking was very easy, however the pace was quite slow. Chopping had not that much spin reversal and not that easy to perform either (probably because of TB Spirit not being an ideal blade to do away from the table chopping).

Carbon blades aren't really known for their chopping prowess😂
