Do they exist, or are they like unicorns? I have read about those becoming available after the plastic ball is more widely manufactured, but as of yet, I have never seen one (except those 44+ balls)

I'm still waiting for other brands to come out with their orange balls.
For me personally, the Double Fish above is still not quite there, though several of my friends like it just fine. They especially welcome the Orange color, since many are older people and the orange really easy on the eyes.
I can compromise in favor of the orange color which is really welcomed by my eyes as well for playing double, but still opt for the white one for playing single.
Pros for the orange Double Fish:
1. Very nice orange color easy on the eyes.
2. Very rough durable surface.
3. Heavy.
Cons:
1. Very rough durable surface.
2. Heavy.
These two effect how the ball bounce and its spin.

Here's side by side with old Butterfly's orange ball.
The color a bit off from the real live balls, but one could adjust and get a feel by comparison with the old Butterfly's orange ball.

I was those DHS 2 toned plastic balls the China Super League uses to be released.

Could be the paperwork is on the way... That's also probably why they don't sell it widely (outside China) just yet.
I know another brand that's also on progress on getting ITTF approval. It was just I knew it too late and I didn't get the chance to get some before leaving China last month.
