Hi,

I am looking for a faster blade, since after 12y+ my OSP Virtuoso is way too slow for me.
I am currently playing with a Ma Lin Carbon that I had laying around, G1 on the FH and Tenergy19 on the BH.
Don't like the handle on it though, and the craftsmanship of OSP makes me wanna get another one.

How do OSP Virtuoso+ / Vurtuoso AC compare with Ma Lin Carbon and each other?

I do not need a monster blade, just something 10-15% faster with a good feel.

Thanks

Bonjour,

Good morning,
unfortunately, I can't help you choose, but I would like to have your opinion if possible on your virtuoso wood? Currently, I have the cybershape wood with Nittaku Fastarc C1 on 2 sides. I'm looking for a wood that has very good control and speed at start-up, especially spin. I have an intermediate level.
Apparently, the wood virtuoso is in a good place. What do you think?
thank you for your opinion

The Virtuoso is a brilliant blade, but the emphasis is on control rather than outright speed.
Maybe you have reached the stage that you are so familiar with the blade that you are bored. Blades can be a bit addictive after one has played with the same one or same model for several years. Here's a video with a player (in black) who plays with the Virtuoso- with Fastarc G-1 both sides with no boost.

I have 3x Virtuoso. The older one like yours, the new version and the AC.
The AC is carbon and is a big difference in feel and control as one would expect. I've never trusted myself to be able to use it in competition.

Thanks. I am playing with Ma Lin Carbon, and I feel pretty comfortable with it. It is not that fast. I also tried various blades ppl have in the club (mostly all kinds of Butterfly blades), and they all feel normal and controllable.

I glued G1 and T19 on the Virtuoso, I will try it this week.

I have played with virtuoso OFF- for many years, played for 2-3 months with the virtuoso+ and it is definitely very similar with the korbel blade, dont take "very similar" too seriously as different players have different needs

I have no clue about virtuoso AC, but I have played a bit with the ma lin carbon also and it is definitely 10-20 % (depending on the stroke) faster than the virtuoso+

So if your first feeling is that you need something 10-15 % faster than the virtuoso off- then I would suggest virtuoso+, or even korbel . The osp ultimate II would also be a really nice choice ( I would say 5-10 % faster than the V+) but I havent played enough with this blade to be 100 % sure about its speed and general behavior

I dunno, I played with the Virtuoso yesterday, and I had no problems with T19 on the backhand, I think I did not miss a shot. But the G1 on the FH was giving me a lot of headache: some shots went into the net, some long, it was all over the place. It also did not help that I was playing with a short pips guy. But then I switched back to the MLC with G1 on the FH (a noticeably faster blade), and the shots were landing. I will try it more this week.

Small clarification on this video of me — I use a Virtuoso+, not Virtuoso-. Though I think the difference is relatively minor, with both blades using the same construct (I believe the wood on the virtuoso+ is treated differently to harden it a little) 🙂

What thickness are you using on G1? I put 1.8mm on my FH, and it is slow AF, where as on Ma Lin Carbon it feels normal. Even my coach said Virtuoso + 1.8mm G1 is unplayable.

I use Extra Thick (one level lower than MAX) on FH and MAX on BH. You'll see that I don't have a very power-oriented game, but when I hit through the ball with good technique it does go!

I find the combo of virtuoso+ and a relatively thick G-1 super stable, it has so much control and I can serve, spin, counter etc. with ease. I changed from Viscaria with T05 both sides to this setup about a year back — and I haven't looked back since.

I am using G1 on the FH, and I hate how you cannot do pure brush loops with it, you must always go a bit forward with it to engage the sponge. I got used to this, but it still irks me a bit.

Love the blocks / short game with G1 though.

I wonder, is there a rubber that's almost like G1, except it can do brush loops? Anything lighter is always a plus too, G1 is a bit heavy.

I've never really found this to be a problem with G-1— my technique is pretty biased to brushing rather than hitting through the ball and I find I can play slow spins pretty easily.

Did you previously have hard, tacky rubbers? If so, that might be why it feels tricky to brush and not engage the sponge but still get a decent quality shot
