I wrote about how 簡彤娟/Chien Tung-Chuan was the promising player over at MyTT last year (lost forever, but this one from WTT CT Durban 2023 survives), still I only expected her to play WT at most. But after CSY messed up exactly like how LYJ did, Chien Tung-Chuan now becomes the 2nd WS player for TPE and also edges out Li Yu-Jhun who was set for WT.

I don't know if this might be the correct post to ask for this, but I want to buy tickets for the Olympics. I can buy either 1/8 or 1/4 Team Rounds, my main "goal" would be to see Timo and Ma Long, but I see there's 1 match of each round that it is played on a different day, what do you think are the possibilities of that match to be either Germany or China on those rounds?

Any inputs, suggestions or tips would be great!

А VERY SPECIAL OLYMPIC TABLE TO PLAY SNAKE LOBS.

We got now reported the DHS Paris 2024 black table featuring a decent amount of surface traction. Good to hear such a news, indeed.
A greater traction on the table surface would allow players to perform "snake lobs" a lot. Looking forward to behold the such.

Hey guys, with the Olympics coming very soon, let’s talk about the different events and which players will be impressing or disappointing in certain events.

MS:
Gold: Wang Chuqin, pretty self explanatory, best in the world right now and I’m confident no one will stop him getting one step closer to his Grand Slam
Silver: Fan Zhendong, unfortunately, while I really want him to finish his grand slam he has been vulnerable as of late and while I dont think he will get upset by a foreigner, he won’t stand a chance against WCQ
Bronze: Tomokazu Harimoto, there were a lot of options for the bronze medal but imo i think the double triple crown momentum will carry over to the olympics for Tomo
Dark horse: Cho Daeseong, most of you know I absolutely love Cho and I think if he is on his game he will make a very deep run in the olympics.
Shock early exit: Felix Lebrun, he is young and I don’t know if he can handle the pressure of such a big event in his home country, just like a young Harimoto 3 years ago.

WS:
Gold: Sun Yingsha, simply has been unstoppable like WCQ and she will complete her Slam
Silver: Chen Meng, she has had a bit of momentum since that Saudi smash and she will make it to the final with ease
Bronze: Hina Hayata, she has been the best non chinese player on the women’s side and I can’t really see anyone stopping her to take the bronze
Dark horse: Nina Mittleham, Germany’s women aren’t as strong as they used to be but I personally think Nina will have the tournament of her life and can see her reaching the QF
Shock Early exit: Miu Hirano, I think Japan made a mistake not sending Miwa Harimoto or Ito to singles and I think Hirano might suffer a first match exit if she’s not careful

MT:
Gold: China, no problems for them imo unlike the WTTC, will learn their lessons from the Korea match
Silver: South Korea, as long as they don’t end up on the same side of the draw as China, they have proved they can take China to 5 and therefore are a real threat to anybody
Bronze: Japan, this young Japan team is starting to show their quality in the later WTT events and I think they can make semi finals and then finish off the 3rd place match
Dark horse: Canada, I can’t really see a real dark horse so I will pick my home country to win at least two matches.
Shock early exit: Chinese Taipei, if Lin Yun Ju isn’t on his A game, I can see the inconsistency of Chuang And Kao be the death of the Taiwanese team

WT:
Gold: China, just like the men, they will have learned their lessons from the WTTC, especially without the vulnerable Wang Yidi there.
Silver: Japan, easily the second best women team and can’t see anyone else beating them other than China
Bronze: France, I can see Pavade making a big leap in her game and guiding team france to a home bronze
Dark horse: France, see above
Shock Early exit: South Korea, I really like Shin Yubin but the inconsistency she has shown recently could lead to the women of South Korea falling early, especially with the aging Jeon Jihee and the inexperienced Lee Eunyhee

XD:
Gold: China, can’t see the two best players in the world not winning the gold.
Silver: Japan, Harimoto and Hayata have gotten some momentum the last couple of WTT events and I can see them winning the silver and just falling short of the legendary Ito/Mizutani pair.
Bronze: Chinese Taipei, I’m not sure if it’s Lin and Cheng again, but if it is, this is a strong pairing that can be deadly to any pair on the circuit.
Dark horse: France, Alexis and Yuan Jia Nan can make noise at their home olympics and I can see them making QF
Shock early exit: South Korea, like I said, the Inconsistency of Shin Yubin can hurt South Korea, and also Lim Jonghoon has fallen off a lot since WTT champions Xinxiang.

nice thread idea, heres mine off the top of my head:

gold: Fzd - been here before, no ma long to stop him this time
silver: harimoto - great form lately
bronze: wqc - first olympic pressure. not sure who will beat him but this is just my bold prediction
dark horse: dima perhaps recreating his tokyo 2020 form, that match against ma long is still one of my favorites ever. dark horse 2: calderano, whilst he has been wildly inconsistent for a few years now 2024 has been great for him.
shock early exit: felix, again first olympic pressure although home crowd could help out here.

extra note: i wish that Togami has a good tournament as he's my favorite player

I can't foresee many surprises but I hope Harimoto is gone early so I don't have to listen to him!
I think Lebrun could make the semis but Francisca or Darko to do it if not him.

Of course!! 🤦
looking at form and seeding I kinda forgot the basics! 😝
WMY did not qualify for Women's singles.... only SYS and CM (there's a max of 2 players from the same country in singles at the Olympics). It's a shame, really. She's been practically unbeatable by non Chinese up until she met Manika Batra. WMY beat Batra 4-0 at the World Cup, but lost to Batra 3-1 a month later at the Saudi Smash. CM went full alpha female mode grabbing the final Olympic singles spot by beating Hirano, Miwa, and Hayata in succession (before beating SYS in the final) at the Saudi Smash to seal the deal.
