Let me just say this, and I won't mention anything about politics. This was my honest reaction after the WS gold medal match and nothing to do with the video. I have watched every Olympic gold medal table tennis match starting with Deng Yaping and have never seen a reaction from the CNT and Chinese crowd like what transpired in WS in Paris. The atmosphere was if someone just died. No polite applause. No smiles... not even fake ones. Nothing but sad faces. I mentioned this before, but the chanting of SYS's name during CM's solo photoshoot was just plain rude. And flipping off CM (which I did see in the posted video) is over the top. I mean come on.... this is a compatriot of yours that just won BACK TO BACK GOLD MEDALS. Only highly venerated Deng Yaping and Zhang Yining have done that. At least respect the historical significance of that. This makes me respect CM even more seeing what she has to put up with.
Well dingyi just posted screenshots of ML Vs FZD, and they were looking stern in that too. They only celebrate in Chn Vs the world

If they were so gleeful in previous Olympics where it was Chn Vs Chn, it'll at least help to provide screenshots eh?

CM isn't unpopular, it's because SYS is so popular. If CM is rated as a great athlete in China, SYS is like a celebrities. You should understand that a star's fanbase is always fanatical, CM is innocent, CNT and the Chinese sports department will not tolerate this kind of thing, in China's domestic news section, for several days in a row, CNT and China's official media published a news report "against the fanatical fanization of sports celebrities" or something like that.
Exactly, the CMG recently criticised fanatics and celebrity worship in a post 2 days ago. If that was anti-someone, who is that supposed to be? CM or SYS??
I'm sure the usual conspiracy theorists won't take that news into consideration. China has always preached stoicism in internal affairs, the celebration( and preferably not over the top, cue ZJK and others) is against foreign associations.

Chen Meng herself didn't look like someone that noticed anything different in the demeanor of the team to her, she was all smiles and bright eyed as usual, had hugs and soothing words for shasha after the final. Business as usual.

People on here with a bone to pick with the CNT are picking up a cause that CM isn't interested in, now that's funny. But I'm sure many can say she must have been instructed to "conform" bruh.

Have been for years. They tell him to go back to China when he loses (he was born in Japan but that alone doesn't grant citizenship) and yet act like he is pure-blood Japanese when he wins, especially against China. Typical honne and tatamae of the Japanese culture and society. 表裏不一

Many Tieba/Douban users who have become familiar with/invested in Harimoto in recent years actually start to take a liking to and feel sorry for him.

It's bitter cup to drink... He improved so much in last 1-2 years (at least so I think) and now this...

EDIT: But, from the other side... The bitter the cup, the bigger the motivation ;-)

Yes. There has always been a strong emphasis on the sport of TT in China, and the CNT will not let athletes with outstanding performances suffer unwarranted disasters, if not, the CNT can't continue to be strong.
However...Anything that involves politics becomes extraordinarily problematic, even if it's a pure sport, and I don't want to talk about it. The main thing is that there is a good relationship between the two CM and SYS, and I don't think there's much to argue about.

That's the idea. WCQ and SYS will probably play 2 events only at LA 2028. Harimoto and Hayata also ended in disaster this time.

Exactly, so LSD/KM might learn from CM and decides to only excel in Singles so they are not locked down for XD. Though there's a chance they might end up like LJK, so 50-50.

Was he required to change his name in order to become a citizen? According to Wikipedia, he wasn't one until age eleven.
Used to be the case, but that rule has been relaxed in recent decades. 韩阳/HAN Yang (his Chinese name in Pinyin), 韓陽/KAN Yo (transliteration in Japanese) is an example.

For Harimoto, the family adopted a Japanese sounding last name, the brother was known as 张智和/Zhang Zhihe in Chinese before he started representing Japan (which requires citizenship) and now 張本智和/HARIMOTO Tomokazu in Japanese. The sister was known as 张美和/Zhang Meihe and now 張本美和/HARIMOTO Miwa. The character 本/origin was added to their Chinese last name (which happens to be a typical Japanese last name 張本) as a way to remind the siblings where they came from.

Would you really look at screenshot to get a feel for a match audience? Asking for a friend....

Finally.

But losing the toss is fatal.

White Hair: Emergency, that is.

Harimoto is good in WD/XD, even better than Hayata if you ask me.

Hirano/Harimoto, even though the pair doesn't work, is gonna be the priority pair. Hayata forgoing WD is the signal that she will play 2 singles.

It's been dead clear for several months now, ever since they fielded Harimoto in the WT F against China at Asian Games 2022 that Ito opted out of. Kihara/Harimoto then went on to beat SYS/WMY in the WD QF as well on their first try that Ito/Hayata could only fathom after failing for years.

Hayata/Harimoto played once against Bergstrom/Kallberg at XTWC 2023, which worked pretty well, but highly unlikely to happen at Paris 2024 unless an emergency situation arises.
