After winning all three events in WTT Almate, China's young star Lin ShiDong continued unstoppable journey in WTT Macao capturing a much heavier crown on the way beating several very impressive players. He is hot, no doubt about.

However, even for such a bright star, there are still some TT fans found something thy dislike about him. The one stood out was, after a winning play and before he serves, he often make some wired chicken like funny sound. Some sensitive souls obviously are bothered by this sound.

After play chooing is quite common for most players, most famous one being Harimoto. Before serve chooing is not that common, European players usually don't do this. However, this type of chooing is pretty common for Asian players. If you pay attention, lots of them, Chinese, Japanese and Koreans do that. Ma Long, FZD do it occasionally. Girls do it more often, they do it before serve, before receive. The difference, girls do it in a soft pleasing tone, most men won't find unpleasant. But for some men, like LSD, the fortune is not on their side.

Why player chooing before the serve or receive? This is a way to calm the nerve and get focused. Player were taught doing this practice at early stage. It became a ritual later on in their professional career. I guess, you can say it's a east Asian TT training culture.

I don't know how to post video here. Here is YouTube link showing two pretty Korean girls match. You can hear they do pre-play chooing almost every time. But their tones are pleasing at least to my ears.

Chooing is a bit weird for me but only because i don't understand it and wonder if it is actually words.

The french girl is doing it much louder and she does it also when the opposition is serving now that is pissing me off.

Chooing is not meant to pass some message in words. It's just some sound, tone, serving as a self calming and encouraging verbal action.

french player are also doing this, like felix and alexis lebrun, pavade and simon gauzy occasionally too. they also say 'alle' before the serve and receive, same meaning like dan from TTD saying 'come on'.

so it is part of the game and people doing it to get ready and get focused. but many find it distracting or also perceive it as arrogant. personally i don't see it like that and find it way more distracting when people start their serve to early before i'm ready. or if people get super angry and loud when they are loosing a point. i would like them better if they cheer themself up :p

ahh! but you don't know that see. Maybe it is a secret personal language and it might translate into something like:
C'mon you fucker I'm going to kick you arse.

Choley comes from the chinese and means something like "well done"...
Nah it doesnt, it comes from ancient Mongol language intended to cast a curse on the opponent.

Eh, only fans think about what other fans like and dislike. Then they start to think it should be force upon the player to make adjustments. Imo you can dislike it, but it shouldn't become a concern.

Why should players care what fans thinks, if the routine gets him into right mental state.
