So we’re doing this with currently active players... and only judging raw spin, speed, power and consistency
FH:
Ma Long
Wang Chuqin
Fan Zhendong
Xiang Peng
Zhou Qihao or Jang Woojin (basically a perfect Chinese style forehand)

BH:
Fan Zhendong
Lin Shidong
Harimoto
Lin Yun Ju
Liang Jingkun

i could write Jorgic, Benedek Olah, Togami, Calderano, Ovtcharov and Franziska but they’re not consistent enough (tho perhaps some of them are more consistent than Liang Jingkun nowadays)

FH:
1) Ma Long
2) Wang Chuqing
3) Liang Jingkun
4) Fan ZhenDong
5) Lin GaoYuan

BH:
1) Lin Shidong
2) Fan Zhendong
3) Harimoto
4) F Lebrun
5) Jorgic
Lin Gaoyuan’s FH is literally mocked in China. It‘s fast and spiny, but it heavily relies on sidespin and is only really suitable for counter loops, his pivots and opening loops are a lot less powerful than everyone I’ve mentioned above. It‘s very consistent tho, I give him that.

LJK’s forehand is known for its consistency and is even better suited for counter loops. He pivots even less often and likes rallying a lot and it’s clear why. I don’t think his forehand is all that powerful but it’s definitely fast and spiny, and mostly, consistent. But I see why you’d think he’s top 5.

Both of them are in top 10 but not top 5.

No way LGY's forehand is in the top 10, may not even top 20. His forehand, mostly counter loop, is fast close to the table. Once he is pushed away from the table, his forehand rally lose to most pros.

Yeah, that was definitely and exaggeration but if you count out the CNT members who don’t really get exposed to world events we are left with Europeans I don’t think there are that many Europeans or other Asians with a better forehand. I do think LGY is in top 20 because of his consistency. And his forehand is really suitable for doubles

Any backhand list that doesn't include FZD, LSD, Harimoto, and Felix is wrong. The fifth spot is up for grabs.
I went with Jorgic...but I actually think LJK is really good too on his bh. Spinny, aggressive, consistent.

Also I think WCQ is probably up there as well

And I rank Liang Jingkun above all those guys on backhand. And there are a couple of other deserving guys so there are lots of wrong lists I guess (Alamiyan anyone? Dima? Franziska?)

I think FZD FH is better than WCQ and would be 2nd in the list with Ma Long being no.1. FZD BH for sure is no.1 without question.

surprised that LGY gets a mention for FH and not BH. LGY has probably the weakest FH in the CNT imo as he tends to have unstable elbow, but in terms of BH he is very strong in general.

I think Robin's list is much better

Best forehand is between Quadri Aruna and Ma Long. If Quadri had any sort of backhand he would be a dominant force in the game.

Best backhand is Fan Zhendong with Felix Lebrun a distant (but definitive) second. Fan is the only one who beats Felix Lebrun in backhand-backhand rally, not to mention that backhand is the main part of Felix's game. Lin Shidong might get a better backhand than Felix one day but for now he's mostly good at making a few very spectacular counterhits. LSD takes third place, for sure. Jorgic, Harimoto, LYJ, LGY, and Ovtcharov have some contest between them but they aren't nearly as good as the top three. Simon Gauzy should be in there somewhere, but maybe he is past his prime.
