Hi!

I need some advice please from you guys.. My son is only 9yo but he is quite good already, he looping forehand and backhand, FH loop against backspin etc. BH looping against backspin is a struggle but he is getting there. He trains with the local club four times a week and competes a few times every month.

He have been using Stiga Energy Wood v2 with Stiga DNA Furure for the last year (we changed rubbers). Stiga DNA Future is a little unispiring and I feel its time to move up to a rubber that is a little faster, more spin but with good control and not to bouncy.

My initial thoughts was Xiom Vega Europe or Rakza 7 Soft but are these rubbers too soft? I would like a rubber (same on both sides) that is good for progression and that is not way to soft, fast or bouncy. But still a little bit more advance than Stiga DNA Future.

Thanks for all imput!

Consider trying Xiom Omega 7 Pro or the Gewo EL 48 super select - both fantastic rubbers. Not too hard and not too soft.

Up-grading within the DNA line of rubbers is an obvious option, but if you’re looking to try something different then I’m a big fan of Donic Baracuda. A good offensive rubber, good spin, good control; a good all-rounder as far as offensive rubbers go. My 14yo has used it as a backhand rubber for several years and has recently started using it on his forehand (he just switched from using short pimples on forehand). My son is ranked around 50 in the cadets in England so is playing to a reasonably high standard and the rubber isn’t out of its depth at that level.
