South Korea’s players for Paris

I’ve found it strange that South Korea still hasn’t announced a team (or so I’ve not heard yet). Does anyone know if they did and who’s going for singles and who’s going for team?

Extra: Here’s my personal opinion on who should go for Korea:

MS:
Jang Woojin: No explanation, Koreas highest rank player, beat WCQ in WTTC although still some questionable losses against lower ranked players.
Cho Daeseong: This one is a hot take but I believe he should go because he has been Koreas best player the past 6 months. Won 2 feeder titles (his first did not even drop a game) and got to the quarters and R16 of smash events. I get that he is young but he needs that experience and plus he is the second best Korean player by ranking. He went from outside Top 100 a few months ago to being Top 30 which is very impressive from my point of view.

MT:
Lim Jonghoon: I think he’s been relatively poor this year but we’ve seen that at his best, he is phenomenal (Xinxiang, Frankfurt). He needs to find his form quick or he might not go.

WS:
Shin Yubin: The best woman from Korea rn but I think she still has a lot to prove to deserve that high ranking. She hasn’t been playing like a Top 10 player imo with some pretty poor losses recently but still a lock for singles.
Jeon Jihee: Her performances before this year were way below par but with a fantastic WTTC and a Contender under her belt she has truly bounced back and she should go to singles as well

WT:
Joo Cheonhui: It amazed me that she didn’t go to Busan because she was the second best korean player for 2023. I don’t have her for singles because lately she has fallen off and I think she is a two event wonder (Singapore 2023, Bangkok 2023)

Anyways these are my personal picks but let me know what you guys think and if there are any announcement yet of their teams.

Paris 2024
MS/MT: JWJ, CDS
MT: LJH

WS/WT: SYB, JJH
WT*: Lee Eunhye by selection trial 2024/6/21-23
* The 3rd spot should've gone to Joo Cheonhui but was prevented by her "cooldown period". Kim Nayeong's WR dropped outside of top 30 on 2024/6/18 and hence fell short of the criterion for automatic selection.

XD: LJH/SYB

Ahh thank you for confirmation. I was so close with my picks! Nice that CDS made that team at least. What exactly is Joo’s “cooldown” period? Also forgot about Kim and Lee but congrats to Lee for making the team!

Correction:
It is CDS that will play MS and MT as he's the 2nd highest ranked KOR player (wrongly reported as 3rd member by Table Tennis Kingdom). LJH will play MT and XD.

Joo Cheonhui is a naturalized player and has to wait out several more years to become eligible.

Ah so that’s why Joo cannot compete, similar to Ma Jinbao unable to compete for USA in Olympics and World Championships.

SO HAPPY FOR CHO. I’ve been following him since that Goa win over Fan Zhendong because I knew that he’d be a star and now he is competing in Olympic singles after being outside the Top 100 not long ago! Korea made the right choice and this may be the strongest Korean side if LJH finds his form again

Olympics has no waiting period internationally, any such waiting period is from the national federation, not ITTF. It is more likely that Ma Jinbao is not a citizen, the nation you play for in WTT tournaments is initially the federation that approved your application to the tour event, not necessarily your country of citizenship. The wait period for Joo Cheonhui is Korean policy. If they internally overrode it, she could go.

World Championships is a different story, as that has an ITTF waiting period.

I was completely wrong - the rules changed for six years and I haven't kept up:

The document is here:

They used to publish the list of players and when they would be eligible but the link is not working it seems...

The interesting thing for me at least is that Jang Woojin and Lim Junghoon might play doubles with Cho Daesong playing the double singles role in Teams. This would make Korea pretty formidable. When your highest rated player doesn't play the double singles role, that says something special.

Cho has been on fire this year, it makes sense to play him as double singles. Plus, I think JWJ and LJH have more chemistry as doubles partners than CDS and JWJ, as demonstrated at the star contender ljubljana.

On a side note I actually think An Jaehyun will feel slightly robbed that he is not going for teams as he has been on a run of form as of late compared to LJH. But i think this is because Korea needs their strongest XD pair of LJH and SYB and between AJH and CDS they would pick the former as he has been better. But still I feel for AJH

I watched Cho Daeseong live at WTT Star Contender Ljubljana and he looked even better than other korean who were beast anyway. This is my black horse in this Olympics and also Hugo.
I saw him at WTT Manchester and he didn't drop a set all tournament. He looked levels above everyone else.

Yes, europe players looked like amateurs beside him.
I think he's a great selection for S. Korea, but I don't think that's accurate to say European players looked like amateurs next to him. Here's his losses to Europeans this year:

Filip Zeljko QR32 Contender Doha
Tomslav Pucar R64 Star Contender Goa
Qiu Dang R16 Singapore Smash
Alexander Cassin R32 Feeder Verazdin
Ovidiu Ionescu R32 Contender Zagreb
