The Swedish Open begins tomorrow on the 1st October and concludes on the 6th. The line up is very strong with World Number 1 Xu Xin taking the number 1 seed position. Chen Meng the world number 1 leads the womens singles seeing! Lets get this topic started!

Interesting Draws in the Preliminaries (IMO)

Men's Singles
- Sun Wen vs Lubomir Pistej; also in the group are the ever-reliable Danish Jonathan Groth and Swedish rising star Anton Kallberg
- Fang Bo, Yan An and Liu Dingshuo battling it out for just one Main Draw spot

Women's Singles
- Internal clashes among the Chinese again: Zhang Rui, Liu Fei & Liu Weishan
- Hina Hayata looks set to progress to the main draw, with Shao Jieni, Odo Satsuki and Li Jie standing in her way
- Looks like it could go either Lin Ye, Hamamoto Yui, Pota Georgina, Yang Haeun or Christina Kallberg's way
- Qian Tianyi encounters resistance in the form of Li Qian with Minnie Soo waiting at the other end of the group
- Japanese hopeful Kihara Miyuu likely duking it out with senior Sato Hitomi for a chance against the seeded players

Men's Doubles
- 12 y/o Sora Matsushimi will be partnering senpai Jin Takuya for his first ever World Tour event outside of Japan

Women's Doubles
- True to their words, Ishikawa will be teaming up with Hirano once more to strengthen their potential pairing for the upcoming Team World Cup and possibly the Olympics

Mixed Doubles
- Young Kallberg team to pit them against the newly-minted Yang Haeun/Jang Woojin pair
- The group comprising Lin Gaoyuan/Wang Manyu, Alexander Shibaev/Polina Mikhailova, Alvaro Robles/Maria Xiao all look like either could prevail if their teamwork is on point
- Return of Harimoto Tomokazu/Hina Hayata after their relatively good result during the last Open

unfortunately, for Ito, Hirano, Ishikawa, they’ll have to reach the semi-finals (1170) to raise their point standings against each other. Ito has 2x900, Hirano & Ishikawa both have 3x900. Reaching R16 (720) will help Hayata but even getting to 1/4 Final will still not catch Sato.

Alas, for Hina Hayata Sato too high ...Even to rise above Kato is already a problem ....Especially given the deductions of old points for November 2018 ....Hayata in October announced in four tournaments, Kato - only in two ....In November, both announced in Austria ....

Harimoto has been training for this tournament with Freitas in Portugal before it starts apparently. Not the first time TH has been in Portugal lately. Any idea why @zeio?

Likely to adjust for the jet lag and train against the different pace of European players? For some reason, he has more problems playing them than he does Asian players. Timing issue, perhaps?

Don't you always get the situation with the home nation? I seem to remember that there were quite a few Austrians seeded as top in the Austrian Open last year. I guess they want to please the home crowd?

Just teasing a little ... ; ) but the rule allowing that, must have been quite recent? Although I guess Czech Open had Matelova Hana featured this way too ...

But the tournament is very strong, I wish Stockholm was a little bit closer ...

Perhaps. He was also at the portuguese high performance center in Porto in early August. Maybe in preparation for Czech Open as someone else mentioned, but Porto and Olomouc aren't super close so it seems like a specific decision.

To do that, Ishikawa will have to beat Zhu and Hirano/Ito will have to beat Wang Manyu. Sounds like a tall task. Chances are they all leave Swedish Open with no bonus points and Ito is still vulnerable to the thousand or so bonus points gained by her teammates at the women's world cup
