The multi-sport event will be the second multisport European Championships after a successful 2018 event hosted jointly by the cities of Glasgow, Scotland and Berlin, Germany. The first event did not feature table tennis.

The multisport Munich 2022 European Championships will include Cycling, Gymnastics, Rowing, triathlon as well as newly included table tennis alongside other new sports; beach volleyball, canoe sprint and climbing. The championships will take place between 11th and 21st August 2022.

Outside of the Olympic Games, the Munich 2022 European Championships are set to be one of the biggest multisport events in the world with 4,400 athletes from 50 countries set to compete for medals in 158 events. The table tennis competition will have 240 athletes competing in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

The Munich championships will have a sustainability focus. No new buildings or infrastructure will be built to reduce the impact of the championships. The excellent transport links surrounding the Olympic Park venues in Munich will also contribute to an environmentally friendly championship.

The Board Interim Chair of EC2022, Libor Varhanik said, ‘’On behalf of the EC2022 stakeholders, it is my great pleasure to welcome Table Tennis to the Munich 2022 European Championships. We are sure that with the addition of the European Championships in Beach Volleyball, Canoe Sprint, Sport Climbing and Table Tennis, each represented by their best athletes, audiences on-site and on-screen will enjoy an extraordinary sporting and cultural experience and a rich combination of diversified sports and performances at the highest level.’’

The inaugural event was watched by more than 1.4 billion over 44 territories worldwide. Hopefully, the second event can match or better this to give a boost to our sport around Europe.
