Tenergy 05 = most overrated equipment item?

At first I liked Tenergy05, but I’ve grown out of that phase.

Way too bouncy and unpredictable. It sprays random. High throw angle makes it easy to overshoot the table. Extremely spin sensitive and terrible in serve-receive and short-game. 05Hard is better on FH and 64 is better on BH.

When it came out 15 years ago, it was great and revolutionary.
Is it safe to say that as of right now, Tenergy 05 has become the single most overrated table tennis equipment item (blade or rubber)?

I offer a few simple counters to your statements.
Way too bouncy and unpredictable. It sprays random.
Because you cannot control it
High throw angle makes it easy to overshoot the table.
It's easy to adjust for the high throw and make the high throw an asset.
Extremely spin sensitive and terrible in serve-receive and short-game.
Again, it's a lack of control on users part
05Hard is better on FH
Definitely for some it is
and 64 is better on BH.

When it came out 15 years ago, it was great and revolutionary.

Everything is overrated and useless to someone but I know people who use it and they have none of the issues you mention.
To those at a certain level that play a certain way T05 is a lethal weapon.
It's obviously not for you and it's good you've found the rubbers for you but it's all personal experiences eh!

I played with Tenergy 05 for 5 years and used around 15-20 sheets. I never found anything similar in terms of quality, responsiveness and durability. Though as I got better for me at least the durability came to around 4 - 5 months approx.
The only reason I stopped using it was that firstly due to COVID spread everything came to stand still and I stopped practicing. Then secondly I now don't play tournaments that often and I realized that for what I am playing now, any 47.5 degree rubber will do.

It's all relative. If all your oponents are using the same type of tensor rubber (very hard to control) then it won't matter as everybody will make tons of unforced errors and scores will even out.

About T05 --> Depends who you talk to and what the level of play is like.

The people I have spoken to, who are national level competitors in France say that Tenergy 05 is very difficult to control and is a great rubber if you train minimum 4-5 times a week. It takes much training and skill to control and use this rubber correctly.

The rubber gives a false sense of confidence when training because we unknowingly get used to our traning partner's hits and the rotation etc. so we get a false belief that we own the place... and yes it's extremely spin sensitive. For example punch blocks are extremely risky shots.

Agree, it can be hazardous. It makes speed and spin generation too easy, and dealing with speed and spin too hard. It's fairly extreme in this way, but not different from most other high end rubbers. As often noted on this forum, the vast majority of players would play better and improve faster with G1.
...and terrible in serve-receive and short-game. 05Hard is better on FH and 64 is better on BH.
For some players. But there are pros like Robert Gardos who still swear by it. I think it's easier than any rubber out there for generating high quality spin. Great for flips, especially forehand, and oddly enough for short touches (the spring sponge plays dead with a soft touch).

I think it's now become underrated.

Tenergy 05 was a clear benchmark rubber for tensors until 2020s.

I don’t remember when but it has domination on usage among pros before hybrid era.

Of course, It’s obvious that playing with it is not a child play. Rewards accuracy, punishes mistake heavily like a race car.

Even this day many rubber cannot compete with it.

I have played in a few of these high quality matches that you describe!

I think this is the most salient point in regards to this rubber, it's for pros and/or highly advanced players who can get the maximum from it without any control issues.

Tenergy 05 overrated? Lets see… It has been the most dominant rubber amongst pro players from 2008 to 2019.

Even the pros that were supposedly sponsored by other brands, still used T05. It was so good, if you didn’t use it you would be at a disadvantage.

And what make it so populair amongst amateur players was that even with minimal effort you would get a great quality shot. But yeah, its a very bouncy rubber and van be difficult to control.

But a big part of that may also be that most amateurs have their T05 on a TB ALC, or Viscaria, or even a ZJK SZLC. So maybe if you used a Korbel instead of a FZD ALC, you and T05 might end up being happy after all.

Korbel himself preferred Tenergy 80. So if you felt 05 was out of control, that was where to go.

But in general, most of the negatives of Tenergy have been fixed in Dignics if you don't like the Tenergy tradeoff, because some players do.

i don’t know what is all about t05. One of the best rubber ever created. If I can summarize my real play t05 it will be around 3 months. I never treat it as difficult to control. This will be always my go-to rubbers whenever I will be woken up at night and requested to play TT.
if someone struggles , then it’s lack of basics.
I’m 45 years old and was grown up on sriver and 38mm celluloid balls and then through Tenergy to current meta and there wasn‘t situation, this rubber is too spin reactive please help me finding something which helps me.
wtf!?!?
in my days the only solution was hard training to control it, no shortcuts. Otherwise.. go to your mummy and cry or be the man, pay for coaching and learn something.
sorry but any post I read that I have problem with short play or t05 is too spin sensitive… sorry 2000+ generation… shortcuts, please give me everything on the plate…..
wtf?!?!
yeah, I’m old and suffers back pain, recovers already and drinking good 18 years old scotch whiskey … truth is better then lies, so here it is you all young wolves, train and stop whining!!!!

TB ZLF t05+t19is my primary weapon, every day and night
as mentioned at this moment recovering from back pain. On Sunday it will be 2 weeks not playing, but I’m going back from tuesday, as seems to be ok now.
Before back issues, was testing Q968 nat + h3neo boosted + t19 and was very promising. At recovery I’m also hungry to test fzd alc + boosted h3neo bs + boosted d05. Waiting for package from prott with 3x h3 neo bs prov I ordered. ;)
Ah, but which of those 9 blades will you use!!!???
Nice avatar btw 😉

T05 + One ply hinoki 9mm aka Darker Speed 90 is like Mac & Cheese, Coco Crunch and Milk, Chocolate Milk and Chocolate Cookie, Richtea & Earl Grey.... you get my drift.

You have the wrong set-up!!!

Fact #1: All of us eventually will become uncles / ojisan.
Fact #2: If you live where I am at, you will become Asian Ojisan.
Fact #3: Asian Ojisan Type 1 plays with one ply hinoki and Tenergy.
Fact #4: Asian Ojisan Type 2 plays Cpen and long / short pips twiddler style.
Fact #5: You will become one of us eventually. Resistance is futile. Start getting friendly with Tenergy I say, you'll get a head start!

I also feel D05 has a more stable feeling to it.
