Tenergy 05fx vs C1 for BH

I'm planning to get one of these for BH on Nittaku Inner Carbon (acoustic), would like to know the difference between the two. C1 is harder compared to 05fx, but I need one which can open backspin's with ease. I can adjust blocking no matter which rubber, but opening backspin is important to me. It is important that the rubber is also good for short touch and chops. This is where I loose most of the points. Long chop return goes out of the table. Short chops sometimes go higher for the opponent to smash.

Tenergy 05 fx is faster and produces a bit more spin on opening loops. Both are easy to do opening loops.

Fastarc c-1 is much more controllable for short touch and chops. If you lose many points with those strokes, I would definitely choose fastarc C-1 instead of tenergy 05 fx.

This is a really good point. Knowing which aspect of the game that you need help from the equipment, makes deciding the purchase much easier

How will the hardness between the two rubbers be? C1 being harder than the normal Tenergy 05, I'm not sure if I can feel the rubber when I do the short strokes.I used the T05 on FH and I liked it. I now use G1 on FH as I cannot afford Tenergy 05 due to it's price. If the Tenergy 05 costed 40 Euros, I will never use other rubbers. With the Tenergy 05 on FH, I felt the rubber more when short strokes than the feeling of G1. The Tenergy 05 fx is sofer than Tenergy 05, so I assume that it should give me more feeling when I stroke compared to C1. Correct?

1. Your decision is rather simple & straight-forward.

2. You want to decide btw a & b.

3. a' is what you like but you decide not to use because it is too costly.

4. a is same price as a' hence by this logic, a' is automatically disqualified. You are left with b, so b is your answer.

5. Legend: a is T05fx, a' is T05 and b is C1.

I'm FH dominant, so T05 was not problematic to handle, but the BH chops and short push is something I have to improve and I'm thinking if softer T05fx would help me compared to the harder C1.

I'm better off with softer T05 on FH than the harder G1, Should I use the same logic and go with softer T05fx than harder C1 for BH?

I need between these two rubbers, the most forgiving one where I'm not the strongest which is lifting huge back spins and at certain situations returning short chops keeping it low on return.

joesan... unfortunately, you will need to hit for yourself and see for yourself what type of rubber and what softness of sponge give you the best landing percentage with enough quality.

S-1 may be a better choice for your BH than C-1.

I did a LOT of empirical testing and found that on BH, although I can hit spectacular shots with almost ANY inverted modern rubber... I found I land a couple more balls on the table with a soft sponged modern rubber (or even old ones like HAMMMOND)... so soft i went on BH.

FX-P, FX-S, T05FX were all great rubbers there... last couple years I use Aurus soft and never looked back. Plenty of easy spin... high landing percentage... that is my requirement and priority for BH. I can pound it when I need to, but I want a rubber than makes it easy to spin and land the shot.

Fastarc c-1 is softer than normal tenergy. It’s 45 degrees. Tenergy 05 fx is 42.5 degrees. Tenergy 05 fx feels a little softer and is a lot bouncier.

I like tenergy 05 fx more for topspinning but fastarc c-1 is better in push, blocks, serve receive and emergency chops. In the end I win more points with c-1.

You have to decide for yourself what you value more.

I started laughing when I read the last post. First you say you’re looking for a soft controllable rubber to open against backspin and you want to choose fastarc c-1 or tenergy 05 fx. You’re afraid that fastarc c-1 might be too hard for you but on the other hand you can’t afford tenergies.

Der_echte gives some excellent alternatives for medium soft rubbers.

After all the advice you choose a tenergy 19, a rubber that is even harder than fastarc c-1 and just as expensive as tenergy 05 😆

But good luck with it. I hope it works out for you. I never tried it but most people seem to agree it’s a good rubber.

I am going to respond even though the OP already decided.

I don't think C-1 is harder than Tenergy 05fx. C-1 has a soft top sheet. They are about the same to me, except T05fx is definitely more bouncier and less controlled than C-1. C-1 is like the Jack of all trades.

I agree with @Der_Echte, you just need to try them and see which one you like the most.

I used to use G-1 on the backhand side when I went with 5-ply all wood.

Then when I tried outer carbon blade, G-1 felt weird or too fast on my BH side, so I switched to C-1 and I was very happy with it.

About 1.5 months ago, I started experimenting with inner carbon blades so I went back to harder rubbers. When I started playing with inner carbon blades, I just realized that softer ESN rubber was not pairing well with it.

I just did the test earlier this week: three blades, identical, all have hurricane on the FH side. BH, I put on Dignics 64, Tenergy 80 and Stiga Mantra Pro H. All max sponge. Guess how I liked them? I liked Tenergy 80 the most, Stiga Mantra Pro H in the middle and Dignics 64 the least.

Why? I have no idea. I just put them on and my hand told me what I like and what I don't like. You would think that Dignics 64 being the most expensive and should be the best. But I felt that Dignics was a bit dead. Tenergy 80 seems to hit the sweet spot in terms of hardness and ability to grip the ball. Signa Mantra Pro H, honestly, I got that sheet from Dandoy a year ago when it was on sales. It is 50 degree hardness. I just threw it on because I have it lying around. And surprisingly it felt quite good!!! But yet Dignics 64 felt a bit dead). Go figure.....

At the end of the day, not everyone can afford to try many different equipment and find the combination they like.

But as @Der_Echte said, there are many rubbers that behave the same. For example, C-1, Rakza 7 soft, Acuda S2, M2, EL-P, Barracuda, Rozena all felt about the same and my hand could adapt to all of them (except Rozena felt slightly harder than the other rubbers so I need a bit more adjustment) when I was playing outer carbon. They were all very good.

Now that I know I like harder rubber on the backhand on inner carbon blades, I kind of know what types of rubber should be "good enough" to test in the future.

I was getting some advice from the Butterfly store when I explained my problems and I was told that T19 would suit me more than T05 fx because the T05 fx being more softer would make my BH even more difficult to control. May be because of the catapult effect which is why I went with T19.
