In my own view, the newly developed returnance of serve is the very best novelty of the late. You can now destroy the "midlong" serve just with a pivotal wrist motion. Good to see more and more intelligent players have emerged in the sport nowdays.

This is another masterstroke never seen before. It is essentially different from what other players used to do. You will get erratical ball bounce on your half-table to cause you stumbling.

Okay, do you have any examples of people using strawberries in the past? Maybe video links?

Ask a really old timer. It was heavily used in the early days of ping pong when players were copying Barna. Yes. The stroke is that old.
Barna was very bh-centric and used the strawberry on his fh side and a sort of banana flick on his bh side.

Similar topic about "new technique".

Back in the early 80s, I learned TT using penhold grip. At that time I found that it was hard doing backhand stroke using traditional penhold (I tried to copy Zhuang Ze Dong, sorry for the mis-spelling). So I put rubber on the BH side and started what we called "RPB" now. However, lots of my friends protested that PH was not meant to be played that way. To make things easier, I switched to Shakehand grip.

NOW, RPB is the standard for any penholders.

Can I say that Ma Lin and Wang Hao got the idea from me ??? 🤣🤣

EDIT: If I were a TT world champion back then, people would have called it MPB (Mightymouse Penhold Backhand) and I would be famous for inventing such a clever technique.

One more masterstroke to my personal treasure. Backspin Corcscrew never seen before. The boy is a great innovator, hat off for him.

this shot might work in women's game since they're more cater towards backhand exchanges thus more likely to be caught by surprise. In men's, players are quick enough to react with a forehand topspin and you'll be in a very disadvantage position (backhand in the forehand corner)

This nifty stroke is now growing in popularity with proficient players. Eg. Schtumper of Germany NT likes to get people mad this way.
