What a legend. I remember him from back in the day when my dad started teaching me how to play TT as a kid and to see him still around when I picked it back up this year was crazy. Hopefully he can have a fitting send-off..
Same here, I bought a Timo Boll blade when I was 16 and was happily surprised he was still around when I got back to playing 1,5 years ago, with the same blade.

A true once a generation talent, lets hope he remains in the Bundesliga for some time to enjoy his play. Otherwise I hope he transitions to coaching the German internationals or upcoming talents.

Dirk Nowitzki and Timo Boll,we as a country (Germany) will send them to all countries in the world.
If Aliens Land we will do the same with those 2,
what I really wanted to say is,I hope everyone not only remembers him as a Player, but as a Person who respected everyone and did it gracefully.
Dankeschön!

Watching Timo and Ma Long play got me into table tennis. The very first serve I tried to learn was the reverse pendulum.

I rushed to get to the World Championships in 2021 so I can watch Timo play in person for the first time ever and his opponent couldn't play! Thankfully, I got to see him vs Kanak Jha in the next round.

Absolute legend.

yeah,he also plays the Olympics, too?the last international event.
@backspacer

WTT MS Titles
Boll: 1 (Harimoto: T_T)
ML: 0
Boll > ML

I guess DTTB has been under a lot of pressure and what Boll said about the possibility of being the reserve player has left a bad taste in many people...

(A veteran's announcement)

When my mother brought me to play in elementary school, the foreign players who were mentioned the most were Lao Wa [TL's note: Old friend Waldner], Persson, Gatien, Saive, Kim Taek Soo, and Boll. The first time I saw Boll play, it felt like his loops were spinny AF and had a very low arc, and his BH diagonal rip was fascinating. In 2017, at the age of 36, he was able to wipe out the CNT to rendezvous with Ovtcharov in the World Cup final. Now he is retiring too, respect

Many people thought Boll waz gunna retire after 2008, when speed glue ban ended... not like Timo needed glue to pound it, he never did... but his spin play and his defense/counter-offense greatly suffered at that point... which prompted many to think top level play for Timo was over... but he hung in there and figured it out for another decade plus strong.

Timo Boll. The Table Tennis Roger Federer.

Not necessarily from an achievements point of view (although these weren’t exactly bad!) but from a class, respect, ability to adapt in later career and just pure genius point of view.

An absolute pleasure to watch and a real shame to the international scene once he’s gone.

I’ll be rooting for him at the Olympics!
