Last year's double Olympic silver has left its mark. Now the Swedish Sports Federation's figures show that table tennis was the sport in Sweden that grew the most between autumn 2023 and autumn 2024.

Table tennis has grown quite a bit in recent years – but the increase between autumn 2023 and 2024 is exceptional, according to Peter Eriksson, operations controller at the Swedish Sports Federation.
- Table tennis has increased significantly in relation to previously. They are conducting significantly more training and matches and attracting more participants than before, says Peter Eriksson.
The figures, which SVT received from the Swedish Sports Federation, are based on the sports associations' applications for LOK support (state local activity support).
“Truls effect” after the Olympics
Eriksson believes that last year's Olympics, where Truls Möregårdh took an individual silver and the Swedish men took a team silver, is the major explanation for the increase.
– We do not see the same effect when we compare the spring semester 2023 and the spring semester 2024 as when we compare the autumn semesters. And that indicates that it is indeed an effect after the Olympics, because the majority of the activities have been carried out after the Olympics anyway.
– The Swedish Table Tennis Federation also says that when they have analyzed the situation, that there has been some kind of “Truls effect”.
