didn't they say it was a chinese person instead?
Last time I heard it was someone with a Swedish passport. Perhaps, my memory is failing me.

The key thing is that WCQ clearly cannot play at the same level without that particular blade and I am stumped that no one is calling for his retirement yet

wcq should retire before fzd and ma long
imagine, fzd decides to call it quits (to much injury)
and wcq gave up....

It's 9 hours later and I still cannot believe that this has happened.
Haven't seen the match, maybe this is the greatest 14yr old of all time but really I think the pressure of TT is taking it's toll on WCQ. He's always been a bit 'unstable' but I think this current run of form is definitely a mental toll that he just cannot handle. I feel bad for him because I don't expect him to get what he need from that CNT. I hope I'm wrong and they can actually help him through this, let's see....

Of all the bad losses a young Chinese player has had, this is the most shocking I can ever remember. Faraji is not exactly a top junior even by non-Asian standards. A complete implosion by WCQ. He forgot how to play. There's really no way to say that Faraji did anything that should have given him trouble.

His technique is not stable enough IMO. He needs to be able to play with tremendous spin when he's not feeling comfortable. LSD learning to do so on the FH side is what allowed him to make the leap to the top echelon this year, and LJK having been always capable (in fact that's his preferred way of playing) is why his performance is so stable.

WCQ seemed to try to do that in the game vs Faraji, but he could only execute it at ~60% power, a level that Faraji is comfortable with. He needs to be able to loop with 90% power consistently with a focus on spin. Even if that's not his preferred way to play he needs to be able to execute it because when his game is off or when the moment is big and everyone is tight that's gonna be the more consistent shot.
