Speed and quality. The Speed 90 uses the highest quality Kiso Hinoki. I believe the Speed 70 is actually faster, but does not have the feel and control of the Speed 90. I'm sure the 70 would still be a nice blade though.

Although the Speed 90 was discontinued many years ago, dealers could still order it (in bulk quantity) from Darker direct. The issue was a shortage of the premium quality Kiso Hinoki. The shortage is still a major issue, and pricing continued to sky-rocket, so it probably wasn't viable to make them anymore.
