Why are most handles laminated wood?

Probably to reduce weight.

I aways figured it was for looks but I think Yogi has the correct answer.

Would a laminated wood handle weight much less than a handle with the same wood, but solid (both not hollowed)?

I still think Stiga Nostalgic handles are laminated wenge, if it is, would be a good a example of laminating for weight loss. I believe Yogi could confirm if it is laminated or not.

If you took a solid handle and cut it up into strips and glued it back together, I think you'd find that it weighed more... with most woods. In most cases, the glue is heavier than the wood for its volume. Now, with wenge, glue might be lighter than the wood itself, and perhaps they've laminated it onto another wood that's similar in color.
