I'm relatively new to the tournament watching scene, but I noticed pretty quickly that especially at events in china, but basically chinese fans are almost all women. At least that's how it seems to me.
It's not that there are no men there at all, but just very few. And for me as a comparison in Germany, it's quite different, hence the question:

Is there a particular reason for this?

what is the point of this topic?
it is a valid point, since it is a very unique trend, but I don't think non Chinese forum members would be able to answer and make a good discussion about this topic - since many don't really understand it.

1) zeio mentioned one of them. These "girls" are there for work, taking photos/videos and selling it off, or supplying it to content creators. think of it as paparazzi. Those autograph goods, will also very likely be sold off.

2) fan clubs, that are often pretty wealthy individuals who has both time and money to travel the world. they are in love with the person, not the sport.

3) rent a crowd (include of that by local Chinese corporate when events are not in China)

Often the above 3, none of them knows how to play table tennis, with maybe a small minority that plays a little bit.
It is indeed very interesting and unseen anywhere else.

The only place that you would see true fans filling up the stadium, is in Europe.
every where else on Earth, there are no fans/spectators

I was just in the stadium in Chongqing for the final and I was amazed by how many female attendees there were. I can't definitely say as to whether or not they are "real" fans or "bought" fans but they seemed pretty real to me. They followed every rally and every shot with incredible attention and when their favourite player won a rally they screamed their hearts out. When WCQ was on the come back and looking like he might win it the two girls in front of me were clutching each other like their lives depended on it.

that is fan girls for sure.

the ones on the phone are content creator staff.

in home turf, you will get a lot more fans than rent a crowd.

Men have little chance to get the tickets. The fan clubs have special channel to the tickets of events held in China. Tickets are immediately sold out to the fan clubs and it is very difficult to buy them in a normal way.
so do you think that the fans are actually like the groupies of the rock&roll bands ?

Tony,

w.r.t. point No. 1, why only girls are involved in this trade / profession. Why male are not? Is there a perculiar reason for this?
