Why won't my racket stay closed?

Hello! I played a bit just now, and whenever I do a stroke it should start with a super closed racket and stay super closed until the end of the stroke. However, whenever I try it the blade opens up midway and the ball misses the table again.

Do you guys know why this happens? How do I fix this?

By the way, I am a Jpen player.

Do you hit the ball with the blade kinda vertical and close to your body?

When you swing like that simple geomtry means the bat will kinda come "from below" and thus open up. If you swing farther away with the bat more horizontal it is easier to keep a constant angle while closer you need to actively close that bat some during the swing to keep it closed.

I've always had a powerful FH slot, but recently I've been tinkering a lot with all the nuances the FH, trying to understand every aspect of it and perfecting it. My advice is just don't worry too much about the racket angle. Pay attention to everything else, your feet, your legs, your hip, your shoulder, your elbow, your wrist, and how to activate everything in sequence. Get everything else right, and then there's only one racket angle and one way the racket can travel that can hit to generate both speed and spin.

Its not really like that, more of if I try to put more power, my hand rotates by itself 💀

It opens because your Brain tells your Body to touch the Ball with the rubber. Body obeys this directive by any means necessary.

So if your bat is closed so much that Body cannot touch Ball with rubber, Body opens the bat.

I hear you saying - "Dammit Body! Brain also said to Keep the bat angle constant!"

Sorry. Body chooses touching rubber to Ball. If Body did not you would clean whiff and stroke only air.

I have seen a few people whose Body really does choose to make their ideal stroke. Beautiful technique. Can't play points worth anything. They miss the ball half the time.

Anyway, you fix it by leaving your bat more open on the backswing. That is all.

Really accurate :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Yeah but if I try that then
A. If I use the same amount of power then the ball goes flying
B. It's weaker

It is funny that you are asking questions about what you do on the table and there is no video footage. People try and help based on their idea of what you are doing but nobody knows because nobody has seen what you are actually doing.

If you want actual, real help with what you are doing while you play TT, you will have to post video footage of you attempting to play.

Even if you think you are describing what is happening, words cannot give a full picture of what you are actually doing. Post video.

If you actually want answers to what is going on with what you are doing on the table, words will never convey what is going on. Only people seeing what you are actually doing.

I have had hundreds of people try to explain what they were doing. When I actually saw the footage, they were not doing anything close to what they thought they were doing.

You should be taking footage and analyzing it yourself if you want to improve. But, without that footage, you asking questions that require people seeing what you doing without posting the footage of what you are doing, either it is a waste of time, or it is trolling. And people will try to answer over and over based on their internal image of what they think you might be doing without realizing, you probably don't even know what you are doing or you would have solved the issue already.

If you have a phone with a camera, a shoe, and a chair, YOU CAN RECORD GOOD FOOTAGE.

What is in the photo will work as an excellent tripod and you can aim and set the camera.

If you don't post video footage, the reality is, then you are just posting to get a reaction from people without actually wanting help on what you are doing when you play. Post footage.

Ok, it's actually not that hard. I'll do it.

What direction though? My playing hand side, my non-playing hand side, behind, or in front?

Are you serious? Have you ever watched footage of anyone? Just think about it for a bit. I mean, really. Maybe look at some video footage where you can see a player's technique.

Clearly there are a few useful angles but there is ONE that is much more important than all the others. Just think about it.

Well I mean they're all useful for different things. I'm assuming you're talking about the playing hand side

Most useful would be from the far side of the table with an angle so you can see your FH clearly.

A little footage from the FH side, direct side view if you are looking at FH would be useful also but you don't need much of that. The most important thing is to get a straight on view. Since the other player is in the way of a complete straight on view, straight from the BH side without opponent blocking the view will be okay, and from the FH corner is also good.

But, you have looked at footage of players. What is the most useful thing to see for analyzing footage?

Alright then, I'll try tomorrow then (11pm for me now)

For me, I look at the body. I already know most for the arm motion, so I just need to learn the body
