So from week 48 (this week as of this writing) to year's end the ITTF rankings use 50% of the rankings points from December 2020 in addition to the points from the rules of the rankings rules for 2021.
Anyone heard anything about how the reasoning goes from January on yet?
Probably safe to assume something similar, but ever declining percentage, 40-30-21-10% up until about the summer or even later? As the first points for this year was the Olympics(?).

Not that is is fair or anything, but a fun perspective, is to see what the current rankings would be if only using the events of 2021 so far.

Based on the rankings of week 48 (nov 29, 2021) it would currently be:
  • 1: 3400 FAN Zhendong CHN (only two results for 2021: Olympics final + world champion)
  • 2: 2000 MA Long CHN (only one result for 2021: Olympics winner)
  • 3: 1925 Hugo CALDERANO BRA
  • 4: 1919 Truls MOREGARD SWE
  • 5: 1685 Dimitrij OVTCHAROV GER
  • 6: 1500 LIANG Jingkun CHN
  • 7: 1389 Darko JORGIC SLO
  • 8: 1375 Timo BOLL GER
  • 9: 1175 LIN Yun-Ju TPE
  • 10: 1160 Quadri ARUNA NGR
  • 11: 960 Tomokazu HARIMOTO JPN
  • 12: 869 Omar ASSAR EGY
  • 13: 830 Anton KALLBERG SWE
  • 14: 795 LEE Sangsu KOR
  • 15: 725 Simon GAUZY FRA
  • 16: 697 Ruwen FILUS GER
  • 17: 665 Patrick FRANZISKA GER
  • 18: 644 Liam PITCHFORD ENG
  • 19: 638 CHUANG Chih-Yuan TPE
  • 20: 583 Marcos FREITAS POR

After the World Cup in Singapore this will surely change a bit for starters.
