I do all the time.

Sure cash prizes are nice but not exactly like any of us here make a living off it. I play tournaments because I want to play new people I haven't faced before and I want to test where I'm at.

The reason I asked because I wanted to organize a table tennis invitation match, so far Taiwan club, Singapore club and HK club will join but when I asked my club, someone told me it would not have anybody to join as everybody only join for money. I am very disappointed. I don,t want to say which country but I am living here which has most of the beautiful beaches in south east asia. They are not a country which very good at table tennis.

For a local tournament with a low entry fee and an easy drive from home, sure. If it requires a hotel room, probably not unless I also plan to vacation in the area. The higher the entry fee and total out of pocket costs, the less likely I would enter.
