  1. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

ML lost to Yuan LiCen, a bright rising star within CNT, in a 3-4 match, the best match so far. YLC plays left handed with brilliant serves and threatening third and fifth ball attacks. ML had trouble receiving YLC’s serves through out the match, specifically in the late stage of a game. Indeed...
  2. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

When it comes to Olympic selection for CNT, “公平、公正、公开”的选拔原则" is on the back burner, winning gold is everything. If you understand this, you understand the selections. At the moment, the pandemic situation isn’t looking good. I’m deeply concerned if road to Tokyo will turn into road to nowhere.
  3. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

So May 15 is the deadline. Team rosters have to be submitted. They are taken off the wtt website because the bureaucrat has not officially announced it yet in China. The rosters are not going to change.
  4. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

ZQH has been known as 神经刀 meaning he can beat anybody if he’s on but he can also lose to anybody if he’s off. When he’ll be on and when he’ll be off is not all that predictable. I believe he has beaten ML for the last three internal team encounters. He tends to hit balls off the bounce earlier...
  5. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

At this moment, I don’t see LSW as a single player at all at Tokyo unless the separation-by-association rule is reinstated, which is highly unlikely this year. A poster wrote a detailed analysis on this rating/seeding change and stated CM/SYS would be much preferred singles selection. LGL...
  6. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

That ranking update will have a huge impact on the lineup of women’s team and may very well be the final nail in the coffin for LSW’s case of playing singles. The risk of the CM/LSW winner playing against ITO for gold medal is just too high for the bureaucrats, it outweighs everything else. So...
  7. WangHao’s Unexpected Heir Apparent?

Indeed he is. The YouTube one is more complete. His backhand is stronger than his forehand. Very impressive. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yVsMs6P13_Y
  8. WangHao’s Unexpected Heir Apparent?

https://m.bilibili.com/video/BV1Di4y1E7SQ?from=seopage The kid’s RPB is impressive and gets lots of attention in China at the moment.
  9. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

Definitely a stroke of genius by LGL. Having CCTV live coverage is the envy of all sport events in China. My prediction is that FZD beats LJK in the semi and then beats ML in the final. CM should beat SYS in women’s final. Curious how far FZD/CM would go. Don’t think CM is strong in double play...
  10. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

The selection of LGY/LJK/WCQ is more for testing out the de facto team than for mimicking a particular country. I believe every member of this team has beaten at least once every member of the de facto team. It represents a much tougher challenge than any real Olympic team could offer Cant wait!
  11. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

So the top 8 seeded players are: 1. FZD 2. XX 3. ML 4. LGY 5. LJK 6. WCQ 7. ZZH 8. XCH FZD and XX won’t meet till finals. The toughest draws for FZD would be against LJK or WCQ in quarter finals and then against ML In semi finals. Throwing in other lower ranking and dangerous players, this...
  12. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

    I’d say it’s very likely.
  13. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

So seems there’ll be 16 teams for men and 16 teams for women. It may make sense each of the top 16 players will lead a team.
  14. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

I have little doubt that ML/FZD/XX, the de facto team, will be tested and battle all other teams. LJK/LGY/WCQ should be a very formidable challenger. Not so sure about women’s team. LSW/CM/DN against SYS/WMY/ZYL would be fun to watch
  15. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

This is a highly anticipated and much hyped event considering the lack of activities as of late. Every CNT member will participate including LSW.
  16. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

CNT will be hosting a tournament simulating Olympic Games TT Tokyo 2020. The event will start on August 8 and be televised on CCTV 5. CNT members will form teams representing various countries and match times, draws, rhythms all follow exactly what the Games would dictate. Can’t wait!
  17. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

I actually just rewatched the last two encounters between Mima and LSW today. Mima managed to beat LSW from behind in both matches - 3:2 from 1:2 in 2018 World Cup team finals and 4:3 from 1:3 in 2018 Sweden Open final. I’m starting to doubt if LGL will pick LSW for singles if she can’t beat...
  18. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

Adam’s interview with Steve, ITTF CEO. At 39:23, Steve talks about who would play Olympic singles for CNT.
  19. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

Chinese media just published rankings of top 20 active athletes worldwide with most market values. Among them are five CNT players: #11 XX, #12 LSW, #14 FZD, #15 ZJK, and #16 DN. ML is not even in the list which doesn’t make any sense. Ranking for Chinese athletes only: Four CNT players are...
  20. Road to Tokyo 2020: Chinese TT Team

Looks like there will be COVID-19 vaccine(s) available by the end of the year and I have little doubt Tokyo 2020 is going to happen next year.
