Timo Boll is not happy with this decision of not receiving the wild card and expressed, "I have been in the ITTF top 10 World Rankings for the passed 13 years and I am currently at world number 7. I believe I have been taken out without any reasons, and this is the year before the Rio Olympics.
Michael Geiger the German Federation's president commented, "Sweden already have a player (Kristian Karlsson) in the competition as they are host nation. It is fair for Sweden to apply for the wild card, however I don't understand the ITTF's decision not taking into account the level of Timo Boll and the effect this will have on his fans across the world.
Judit Farago, the ITTF Director, quoted "there is no doubt about Timo's level and great success, but these results are not relevant for the wild card."
The only way Timo Boll can play is a withdrawal from a participant.
