Oh gosh. All is not lost yet. What kind of glue did you use? Is it water based or the old stuff or something like rubber cement? If you put enough glue in there, take the sheet, put it between two sheets of something like what new rubber comes in or between two sheets of plastic and put it on a flat surface and put something heavy like a stack of books on top of it for a day or two or three or four. See if that gets the rubber to stick to the sponge. If there is enough glue in there, it should, if you think you need to put more glue in, do that first. Don't put too much glue though.

It could be that the glue has not dried fully yet. If that is the case it is hard for the sponge and the pimples to adhere. When the glue is dry if the rubber is pressed from both sides the pimples should adhere to the sponge. If you used a glue like rubber cement or the old type of glue, that would expand the topsheet for while until it has fully dried and the VOCs are gone. When the solvents in the glue are fully evaporated the two surfaces should adhere. If you used water based glue that should not happen and then it may still just be a case of waiting for the glue to dry and keeping the topsheet firmly pressed to the sponge.

You asked if I have done this, I have watched it being done but I have not done it myself. I am friends with this guy who fixes everyone's equipment at the club I play at.

It is too bad it is too late to take the sponge back and see if they will exchange it though. As soon as I saw Wiwa's comment about taking the sheet back, I realized that was the best first thing to try. If you had not used the rubber two many times and it could be seen to be fairly new and in good condition, the shop should have taken it back regardless of when you bought it. I believe they can send things back to the distributer when something like that happens and get it replaced. If the shop did not take it back, you would have lost nothing but a trip, and then trying this technique.

But now the issue would be, to see if you can get the pimples and the sponge to stay glued together before you buy another sheet.

Hey Carl, where have you been. Been MIA for a couple of days there buddy.....Yup, I'm sorry to hear about the rubber too. It does looked serious though. I personally would have changed it or if I couldn't, I would just get a new sheet. But then again, it's me.

Actually I posted the reply 6AM on Thursday before I went to work:

Nice idea Wiwa.

Indicating that I thought that Wiwa's idea of taking the sheet back and trying to get it replaced was the best option. I only wish I had been more complete in that post. Wiwa's suggestion was really the best option and that is what I was trying to say before I ran out to work.

I posted this quote at 7:50AM Friday, before I went to work:

Oh gosh. All is not lost yet. ....

When I am at work, it is hard to be at a computer. So I post at night, or early in the morning. :) But there was just over 24 hours between those two posts. I do hope Bryce is able to sort out fixing the rubber so he can use it. I personally hate wasting money on good equipment if I do not really need to. It is not that I think Table Tennis is too expensive, I think that depends on each individual's budget. Mine is tight. It is that I do not like wasting so if possible I would prefer to use what I have to the fullest degree I can before replacing.

But in this case, if the sheet was barely used and the store was on the up and up, trying to return it and have the store send it back as defective, would have been the best option. Now that that is no longer possible I hope my directions can help Bryce salvage some good use out of that sheet.

It is now 12:30AM and I must wake up early for work again in a few hours so I should probably call it a night even though I doubt I will. :)

You can still give it a try and return the rubber, and explain that you tried to fix it that way. Odds are lower that you will get a new rubber, but they're not zero ;)

I am again going to agree that it is worth a shot. :)

says how to start a thread?
Byrce. U got it all wrong. U need to tell the counter at braddell that u want hurricane 3 as they keep their hurricane 3 rubbers in a box, guess thta as it is so popular selling rubber. They are scared tat ppl will steal it. Basically if u want the provincial version, u need to tell them too if u want the commercial or provincial version. As in braddell they keep all those good rubbers Lyk tenergy to themself and will not display it. So just ask. The provincial version there cost $35.

O i think i saw the owner taking some tenergies out of the cabinets there. The provincial version at Tampinies sports hall cost $5 dollars more... And i think they only have the 40degree hardness version now. But i live in the east which is pretty far from Braddell, not sure if the trip is worth $5.
