Although there is an opinion that the booster should be applied to the glue layer, I always tried to apply the booster to the sponge and only then the glue and for me this works best. It is great that Zhang Jike confirmed this!
Now I have a sneaking thought that applying the booster to the glue was invented by the booster manufacturers in order to increase the consumption and, accordingly, speed up the purchase of the booster :)

I am also pleased that Zhang Jike confirmed my observation about the speed and rotation of the ball in different halls. Among the players I personally know, I am the only one who has different equipment for different halls.

you did hear he did say add little booster after the white glue right?

2 layer booster + 2 layer white glue, + small booster layer + white glue, is quite common

I was suprised, that he also does this with the brand new Donic J series rubber, which actually should not need it. Based on my limited experience with them (J1 and J2 for around 3 hours) really don't need booster.

How he knows? He doesn't have your experience :)

Booster on top of glue only ruins the glue and makes the booster absorption much slower.
Unless you need slower absorption so you don't kill the rubber it's a pretty silly method for superstitious people.

But, superstition brings confidence, and confidence in your equipment is great.

It’s a bit of a grey area now when it comes to boosting even though players still do it themselves. I just hope ITTF reverses the ban on not allowing players to boost their rubbers themselves. Makes no sense to allow factory boosting but not allowing players to boost their own rubbers.

I don’t think anyone that is currently working for ITTF will change the rules anytime soon.

I don't like how he places the rubber on a bottle top to dry. It places more tension on one point so that spot would dry to be a little different. I know he wants to let the rubber curl naturally but I think it's better to lay it on top of a rolling pin or long curved surface.

I've got to say that his idea that halls with higher ceilings result in "higher air pressure making it harder to play" is utter bollocks.

P.S.: Wouldn't surprise me if he said something completely different and it was mistranslated.

the problem is, there are few igor fans in that spot and they coming out with food testers to check for boosters
it seems like some people have gone insane smelling too much speed glue
will the actual players are very healthy.

everyone boosts, it is more difficult to find who isn't boosting lol

I think it was mistranslated, the translation on that channel is dodgy
and they probably making a killing from doing it.

higher ceiling, would have more air in the hall
those, ball will be slower / more resistance.

air pressure is with altitude

a lot of people do it, this is to allow the curve to go naturally and not to have any support (ie flat surface) on the edges.

I personally use flat service, as I don't care that much.
But I know a lot of provincial and national team players from China that only does the bottle top

air pressure is with altitude
Higher altitude -> more rarefied air-> faster/spinnier ball
Hotter/dryer air -> same
Humid/cold air -> slower/less spinny ball
Random air circulation -> unpredictable ball

Basic stuff.

Imo, halls with higher ceilings invariably tend to be large halls either with lots of people or non-trivial air circulation patterns caused by powerful aircons, etc and that is probably what he refers to.
