I was scrolling around online and found this blade: "Xiom MUV Prospeed - Japanese Penhold Monoblade," a 1-ply JPEN in Sapphire - Lightweight Wood. I've only seen 1-plys in Ayous and Hinoki. Has anyone tried this? I'm curious of how this compares to hinoki or how the feeling is etc?

Its cheap, can't imagine that it would feel that good. But low grade single ply Hinoki doesn't feel that good anyways so might be fine just to have a blade in the shape of a single ply Hinoki. Its hard to get a legit feeling Hinoki blade nowadays without shelling out big money for products like Vmax/Gmax, Dynam, etc

Yeah, no way I'm shelling out $360 to test out jpen lol.
But have you ever seen another blade made out of "sapphire wood"?

Hi Lando, do you perhaps have a 1 ply hinoki, that you can use as a comparison to your new sapphire wood jpen?
Hey,

No, I dont have a hinoki blade.
I don't think anyone at my club plays with one either, unfortunately.
I can only compare it to a viscaria, stratus powerwood and firewall+
It should be here Friday, ordered from megaspin

Actually really envious to you, Lando.
Just got it today! 2 days early, which is always nice.
My only issue so far is that my hands are too big, and my fingers extend beyond the cork on the back, but I can just sand it down.
Also, I had no idea the back was painted black, I bought red paint sheets lol
Look at her, so sexy 😳
Im really envious. I can't find it here in Germany 😭

Yeah if you want to use black rubber, you can put the red sheet.

You don't have to extend your fingers fully. Clawing is also ok. Be flexible like Ryu Seung Min, changing position each shot is ok. For bomba i like to grip the edge of the cork, touching the wood slightly.

What rubber are you planning to put on it?

It's the best looking blade I've ever had that's for sure!
I usually curl my fingers in the back for tpb, but like to extend them if I'm hitting a winning FH, but I'll get used to it.

I have an uncut black baracuda and black hurricane 3 commercial, but I'd hate to put the red sheet over the black paint on the back, it looks really nice!

Im not planning to play any tournaments, so I don't mind having 2 black sides until I decide if I like it. If like the blade, I'll just buy a red tenergy 19 or baracuda.

It's very light, it feels as light as my balsa firewall+

First session with the blade was Monday.
So many edges, and hitting the ball with my index finger. But after some adjustment, it started to work.

The blade sort of reminds me more of my balsa blade than my viscaria.
The blade seems slow and controllable on light touches and a rocket when you hit hard.
What was surprising is that spin *seems* easier to control., but that may be due to the grip?

The space between my index and thumb was getting pressed pretty hard against the edge of the handle when trying to do that Xia/Hirano video jpen backhand. The base of my index finger is very sore to the touch today. Going to be sanding the crap out of the blade today.
The only thing I wish it had is a little more vibration when hitting hard like my SPW. But, I'm very happy with this blade and definitely recommend it if you are looking for an inexpensive jpen blade.
